Main LONG-TIME LOCAL TAILOR PASSES AT E Edward Joseph Klein passed away at his home on north Bartlett street Wednesday fol lowing a lengthy illness. He was born in Witten, Ger many, August 1870 and came to the United States at the age of 16. He traveled extensively, finally settling in Medford some 39 years ago. He had engaged in the tailoring business in the same location -for 33 years. On April 17, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Her mlne Ida Stelner, at San Jose, Calif. Mr. Klein leaves to mourn his passing his wife and four sons, Norman E., of Garden City, N. Y.j Ralph E., Portland, Ore.; Leonard Mi, Corvallis, Ore., and Vernon J. Klein, a reserve mid-shipman of the U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.; also one brother, Gustav J. Klein, Jersey City, N. J., and five grandsons. Mr. Klein was a member of Masonic Lodge No. ' 103 A. F. and A. M., Scottish Rite, and Hlllah Temple of the Shrine, also the Knights of Pythias, the Elks Lodge and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services will be held at the Perl Funeral Rome Fri day at 2 p. m. Members of the Masonic Lodge will officiate and entombment will, be in the Portland Mausoleum in Port land, Ore. Because of his ability to pass the Eddy test, Porter was en listed as a seaman first class, two steps above rating at which a recruit ordinarily begins He will be sent home on inactive duty, pending graduation from high school in June, will be trained in radar at Chicago and later at some college or univer sity, the navy recruiter states. Trading increased to such vol ume that the tickers ran four minutes behind. This was the latest the tape has been since mid-May, 1940. The favorable war news caught the stock market off bal ance and it crumpled easily. Before the announcement, the market had been under the in fluence of fears of further mar gin restrictions. Preliminary closing Dow Jones stock averages: Industrial 158.83, off 2.69: Railroad 50.96, off 1.13; Utility 28.00, off 0.40, 65 stocks 89.23, off 1.07. Sales totaled 1,860,000 shares compared with 1,400,000 shares yesterday.
