Lawrence's Jewelry store, of North Central Avenue. Mrs. John Lawrence, who said the man was about five feet, 10 inches tall with a dark suit and hat, long sunken face, and wear ing a brown overcoat, came into the store about noon and asked to see unset diamonds. During inspection of the stones he re placed one ot them with what Mrs. Lawrence suspected to be an imitation stone. She sent clerk, Mrs. Carold Parker, to Brophy's Jewelry store with the imitation stone to have It inspect ed and asked a patron to remain in the store while Mrs. Parker was gone. The thief apparently became aware of Mrs. Lawrence s sus picions and left the store. Mrs i SNIFFLING? Sether, of 1007 Queen Anne who, together with C. L. Nord quist, 1120 Queen Anne, chased the culprit down an alley, acrosl Bartlett street, down Sixth street, across the lot of the Auto mobile Market at Sixth and Bart lett, across Merrick's Motor Inn grounds and down to the edge of Bear Creek where they lost the tracks. City police, who had been called in the meantime by Mrs. Lawrence, later found where the thief had waded across Bear Creek to make good his getaway. . City police this afternoon had no clues at to Identity of the thief. PRIME COACH Coach John Parlseau of the Prineville basketball team, in Medford for championship series with the Black Tornado, and Lt. Col. J. C. Bell of the Salvation Army were speakers at the meet ing of the Medford Kiwanls club yesterday. Coach Parlseau spoke briefly on the condition of his team, stating that two of his best men probably would not be able to play but that the boys would give Medford "everything they had." Col. Bell, worker in the Salva tion Army for more than 36 years, delivered the main ad dress. The colonel, a witty speaker, was in Medford about 25 years ago when he re-estab lished the Salvation Army In this community. Speaking on faith, hope and love, Col. Bell dwelled upon spiritual values. Other guests at the meeting were Charles Roberts, charter member of the Medford club now residing in Eugene; Bill McFet ridge, Prineville rancher and father of one of the Prineville players; Joe Tollifer of the Uni ted States Forest Service at Prineville and also a father of a team member.
