At 1-7-41 Black Tornado Brightened By Return of Larry Hayes For Crucial Series Coach John Parlseau and his Prineville Cowboys ' arrived In Medford yesterday and went through light workouts on the Medford hiph court in prepara tion for their crucial champion ship series with the Black Tor nado, only undefeated A team in the state, here Thursday and Friday nights. If a third game s necessary, it will be played here Saturday night; The Cowboys are paced by Durkee, high scoring forward, who measures about five feet, ten inches in height and is a "dead-eye" with one-hand shots from the corner. McPhetrldge, about five feet, nine Inches is also a high scorer. The little sophomore did most of his teams' scoring when Prineville won the district three champion ship by beating Bend. 57 to 31 Thalhofer, six foot-two Inch cen ter, is a good backboard man, controlling both boards In his team's conquest of the Lava Bears. Henry, measuring the same height as Thalhofer. plays guard and Is a swing shot expert. He helps Thalhofer in control of the backboard. Page, five feet. 11 Inches, Is a fine ball handler and plays guard. It will be a best two out of three series with the winner to enter the state basketball cham pionships at Salem next week. Hayes to Play . Medford Coach Al Simpson said his team has been troubled somewhat by colds but other wise is in good shape for the series. Tornado hopes have been brightened considerably with the return of Larry Hayes, who was injured while playing Klam ath Falls here Feb, 10. Simpson said Hayes was "a little out of shape" but would add a lot of zip to the Tornado team. Simpson said today the games with Prineville will undoubtedly be the toughest the Tornado has had all season. They have the tallest team to face the Medford squad this year and have a fast break surpassing anythirg used by previous Medford opoonents Don Faucett and Don McPike. both of Portland, have been se cured to referee the contests. 13-Year.Old Wife ' Says Mate Cruel Tazewell, Tenn., March 7 (U.R)- Thirteen-year-old Mrs Wilma Jean Buqhanan tiled suit lor divorce today. Lever- ette theaters in Ashland, will j assume managership of the Med i ford and Northern California houses of the Leverette Inter- j state Theaters, Leverette an j nounced today. Ryan will make Lee B. Ryan - his headquarters in Medford; from where he will supervise the four Medford theaters, the Lithia and Varsity in Ashland. Broadway and Shasta in Yreka and New Weed theater in Weed He will be first assistant to Leverette. Ryan came to Medford a number of years ago when Fox West Coast theaters operated the Medford showhouses. When the Fox chain ended their leases here Ryan was employed by Leverette to operate the Lithia theater in Ashland, then under lease by the Leverette firm. In 1938 Ryan took over manager ship of the new Varsity theatei in Ashland, together' with super vision of the California houses Last year the Lithia was pur chased by Leverette from Harry B. Hurst and Ryan added it to his managerial duties. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan plan to make their home1 in Medford. ROGUES DEFEAT ARLINGTON FIVE TO Rogue River high school's casaba crew evened their series with Arlington here last night when they turned back the Honkers 37 to 22. Arlington won the first game Monday night by a 30-28 score.' The two teams travel to Arlington for the third and deciding game Friday with the winner to enter the state "B" tournament at Salem next week. Rogue River ran up a B-0 count before Arlington could find the hoop and was leadinp 11 to 5 at end of the first quar ter. Arlington was held to one field goal In the second stanza and was trailing 20 to 7 when the teams went to the dressing rooms at halftime. The Honkers outscored Rogue River in the third period but were behind 27 to 18 when the quarter closed. Huntoon, Rogue center, led all scorers with 14 points Clough, Arlington forward, was high for the losers with eight. Rogue River made IS out of 57 shots at the basket while Arlington made eight out of 48 tries. Nine personal fouls were called on Rogue River while Ar lington was penalized 12 times The Rogues made seven free throws out of 13 attempts while Arlington potted six out of 11 Lineups: Rogue River Pos.
