It never entered my head they actually could get homesick for those very conditions. So a recent let ter from an" Eastern woman come West, was very revealing. Of course the fact that she was a farm woman before coming here to work in a war plant may have something to do with her atti tude. She says she misses the sharp ly defined seasons of the East; that in colder climates, Spring brings a resurrection to all things; especially to trees; trees seem to have a heart-beat whicn definitely quickens then. She misses the fragrances of newly plowed ground which are so much a. part of - an Eastern spring. I cut almost two feet of rot out ot one cherry tree and all the neighbors said it would die. But it never." In fact it bore more than the other trees the follow ing year. "Then my husband went Into the service. I gave up the farm and came here to work in a wai plant. Much of the time I feel not only very lonely, but bewil dered at the changes which have come about In my life." This letter was good for me I'd had a smug "conviction that no one could possibly get home sick after having once experi enced our gentle, always temper ate climate. I had thought worn en who had led sheltered live.- would consider war work an ad venture. I might have known better, for I too, like, an estab lished way of life and should have known women are ah much alike; especially farm women.
