SOCIETY and CLUBS State Supervisor Royal Neighbors To Visit Medford This month has, seen several valley chapters of fraternal or ganizations and lodges enter taining state and national offic ials. Continuing the list is Mrs. Mae Logan of Portland, state supervisor for the Royal Neigh bors'of America, who will be in Medford Thursday to visit Mis tletoe Camp. Mrs. Logan will meet with the local group at the Knights of Pythias hall at 7:30. The gather ing will have a double signifi cance since this month Royal Neighbors are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the lodge's founding. Mistletoe club will meet Wed nesday at the Girls' Community club for a covered dish luncheon Members able to do so are asked to come during the morning for sewing. If Mrs. Logan arrives in Medford Wednesday, she will be a special guest at the 4unch eon. Zontians To Hear Speaker Tuesday Mrs. Clarence Meeker will speak at a meeting of Medford Zonta club this week. Club mem bers will meet Tuesday at the studio of Mrs. Effie Kurtz, 204 North Ivy street, at 8 p.m. Mrs Meehers' appearance was ar ranged by the service committee of the club. Auxiliary Sewing Club To Meet Wednesday The sewing club of Crater Lake auxiliary, Veterans of For eign Wars, will meet Wednesday. Feb. 28th at the home of Mrs E. G. Heim, 508 South Grape street. Officers I Attend Meeting Fifth District Central Point A delegation of Portland women who are state and national officers of the Women's Relief corps were in Central Point February 17 for the tenth annual convention oi the fifth district of the corps. The delegation included Agnes E. Lindahl, Oregon department president; Mary E. Schnase, de partment Inspector; Lillie G Watt, department senior aide. Zella Bartmess, department sec retary and Ellenore M. Zeller national senior vice-president. Daisy Bovee of Grants Pass was elected district president during the annual naming of of ficers, replacing Freda Lawrence of Medford. Others elected were senior vice-president, Millie Mc Lean, Gold Hill; Junior vice-president, Hattie Thompson, Central Point; chaplain, Marietta Pratt, Grants Pass; conductor, Emma Gleason, Central Point; guard Marcia Shell, Medford; secretary and treasurer, Ethyl Weed, Med ford; assistant guard, Clara Hills, Medford; musician, Delpha Cox, Central Point; color bear ers, Madge Dorman, Gold Hill. Martha Booth, Central Point; Merville Kucera, Grants Pass; Milly Tucker, Medford; press correspondent, Freda Lawrence Medford; patriotic instructor. Mary Fern, Grants Pass. Marcia Shell, Medford; color bearers, Tilly Maple, Central Point; Marietta Pratt, Grants Pass; Milly Tucker, Medford; Carrie Young, Medford. An address of welcome was given by Eva Smith of Central Point, with Mary Fern of Grants Pass making the response. Mrs Fern also presented the visiting state and national officers with corsages as she introduced each to the delegates. Annual reports were present ed and committees appointed for the coming year. The ses sions continued throughout the day and luncheon was served at noon by corps members. Following the meeting Mrs Lawrence accompanied the Port land visitors to the home of Mrs. Susan Clayton, Talent. Mrs Clayton, 93, Is the only Civil War nurse now remaining in the United States. Birthday Party Given For Boy Mrs. Blanche Sipes, 29 Front street, entertained at a birthday party last Saturday afternoon which honqred Larry Willarding. a son of Mrs .E. H. Willarding. 611 West Second street. Larry celebrated his second birthday that day. Ice cream and birthday cake were served the guests. Larry received many gifts, including a large denomination war bond. Guests were Carmen Howard Carren, Ruth, Peggy and Rogei Eccles, Leletta Bentley, Mrs Laura Eccles, Mrs. Marie Nich ols, the honored guest and hii mother. Wings Leaving Today Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. WinR of Burlingame,' Calif., are leav ing today for their home after a stay in Medford. Mr. Wing has been here for the past several weeks and Mrs. Wing has been in the city for the past two weeks. They were accompanied south by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wing, 1020 Queen Anne avenue Mr. and Mrs. Charles WinR resided here for many years ann have many friends in the valley meant work. Gardening meant Meeting Honors Pioneer Teachers Jackson County Pioneer teachers of Jackson county Were honored at the meeting of Epsllon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held Feb ruary 17 at the Girls' Communi ty club. Mrs. Maybelle Klemm was in charge of the program. Among the guests were Miss Elizabeth Ferguson and Miss Elizabeth Burr who told inter esting anecdotes of their experi ences in this county, and Miss Amy Harding, who told of her teaching experiences in Texas. Mrs. Amos Willitts, who intro duced the guests, expressed the regrets of the group that Mrs George Eubanks was unable to be present. Excerpts were read from letter recently received from Mrs. Daily, former well known resident of this county now liv ing in New York City with her daughter, Fern, former Medford teacher. Another visitor was Miss A. Anderson, member of Gamma chapter, who spoke briefly. A delightful feature of the afternoon was provided by Jer rine Mote and Marilyn Young of Ashland. Dressed in costumes typical of the Gay Nineties, the girls presented a group of songs in the manner of that period. Miss Burr and Miss Ferguson presided at the tea table which was arranged with acacia and fern. During the business meeting the group went on record as fa voring the O.S.T.A. sponsored bills affecting education. The bills are now before the Oregon state legislature for consideration. Party Celebrates Seventh Birthday Prospect Raymond Shafer ;as guest of honor at a party Feb. 13 celebrating his seventh birthday anniversary. Outdoor games were played, followed by refreshments. Guests were Dar win Bean, Leon Bean, Kermit Neville, Clarence Neville, Cora lee Dal ton, Jimmy Tayloi, Bonnie- Jean Doty, Calvin Dolton, Bobby Broomfield, Priscilla and Howard Price Shafer, Bobby and Donald Dufer, Roma Shaf er, and the honored guest, Ray mond Shafer. Present Program At Lodge Meeting A committee composed of Jane McCarty, Julia Gregory and Lona Bergman presented an entertaining program at the meeting of Olive Rebekah lodge Monday night. Mrs. Wayne Smith Returns To Ashland Ashland Mrs. Wayne Smith and sons have returned to. Ash land from Tacoma to reside with Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. K. Riggs. 17 North Main street, after spending the past three months at East Port Orch ard and Tacoma in order to be near Mr. Smith, seaman in the navy. Mr. Smith is to be attached to the U.S.S. Gilbert Islands in the radar division and Mrs. Smith attended the ceremonies which commissioned the ship Feb. 5, making an inspection tour of the craft. t P.-T. A. Activities Eagle Point P-T. A. School Graduates S,G00th Shavetail New Orleans, (U.R) The transportation corps school at the New Orleans Army air base awarded its u.LOOth second lieu tenant's commission to James J Walker, Yonkers, N. Y. The school was founded in October, 1942, at Mississippi state college.
