Havlne attended RnnHm school most of my life with wnat might be called relentless regularity, yet I was unable to put my finger on its Influential element, The time spent in Sun day school is largely given over to the learning of Biblical hi tory, memorizing scriptural pas sages and the singing of songs. True, there is some -emphasis placed on right livlns on the evils of drink, but I failed to see where there was enough to influence conduct of any great extent; especially when 1 remembered the week-long pe riods Detween lessons. Too, much of the class time, tOO mUCh in mV Pcttmatlnn . taken up In getting put for the reai purpose oi the meeting. Out of an hour spent in Sunday school, I doubt If 15 minutes is given to the actual study of the lesson and its application to real livine. Yet tnti.t. .ho... -... children who have good Sunday ii-nooi records, have bad social records. In converttntlnn nrUU m . of mothers who regularly send .ucir cnuaren w Sunday school. Well, those women aavn uhnt t M. D w me, was a satisfactory answer. not discounting in the least the effect of the teaohlng of the principles of rleht liui ever casual this teaching 'might yet me main benefit derives from the fact that children who attend Sunday school come from good homes. It takes parents who have their children's wel fare very much on their hearts to get up early on their one day of rest and see their youngsters off to Sunday school. So the social contacts children make in Sunday school are with those whose parents take seri ously their moral responsibility as parents and as citizens. Were the lesson entirely omitted, Sun day school would still be a con structive influence. Which reminds me I wonder If the son and his wife are doing the right thing by Scotty, the grandson. However, it's really a little early for concern, seeing he's scarcely 18 months old. But Sunday school is a "must" for his near future.
