Mr. Jenkins, who was here on business, is the pub lisher of the Klamath Falls Her ald and News, Visitor Hare Pvt. Charles McLaughlin is In Medford on a 19-day furlough from Camp Hood, Texas. Before induction about six months ago he was em ployed in the lumber industry in the Medford vicinity., a Son Home Elwood Hedberg, Jr., radio technician 3rd class, U. S. navy, arrived home Sun day and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hedberg, Sr., at 'the family home 1206 East Main on -a nine day leave. He has been stationed at the Materiel school, Treasure Island, San Francisco, but is to be re assigned elsewhere when he re ports back to his base next week. Mercer, 18, route 1, was placed in the county jail Wednesday for pur chasing liquor with a forged birth certificate, according to a police report. The youth was held at the request of a liquor inspector, the report stated. Sentences Suspended Jesse F. Graham, 49, Barton Wal droup, 26, and Edward P. Mc Farland, S3, jailed for being drunk in public places, received five day suspended sentences In police court today. Ivan E. Shu mate, 38, held on the 'same charge, was released on $10 bail today. Is Captain William D. Bray, chaplain stationed on Salpan with a Surjerfortrnaa unit h been promoted to the rank of captain according to. Informa tion received by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. 3. P. Bro T Lane. Capt. Bray -has been in me army ror one and one-half years and before entering the army was a theological student at Southern Methodist univer sity. The chaplain wrote that in addition to his ordinary duties, he had started nnt-thnnlrnHmi courses for a group of former tuviniry students and also has a class in Greek. Capt. Bray told of a special New Year's eve serv Ice which he conducted, at the camp and which was broadcast shortwave to the United States. Plan Trip Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hoover, 8 South Orange street, plan to leave Medford over the week-end for Norton, Kens., on a two weeks' trip. Their son. Pvt. Roy Hoover, Jr., stationed at Camp Roberts, Calif., in an Infantry unit, plans to meet his parents in San Francisco for a brief visit on their way east. Car Collision The Riverside and Twelfth street intersection was the scene of an automobile accident Tuesday involving cars driven by Dwight Horton, S39 S. Ivy and Clarence E. Nielson, Ashland, an accident report stated. Only slight damage re sulted according to the report Now Corporal Thomas O. Morehead has been promoted to the grade of corporal, it was re cently announced at the Ontario army air field in California. Cpl. Morehead Is an airplane engine mechanic at the base. He attended high school in Comp ton, Calif., the Williams Field Mechanical school and the Lock heed Service school. His parents. Mr. and Mrs. James Morehead, reside at 2003 East Main street. Reports Capt. Robert van der Hefien left recently for Santa Ana airbase, Calif., after concluding a 30 day furlough here where he visited his aunt, Mrs. R. J. Earl, 618 Dakota avenue, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl von der Hellen, in the Antelope district. He had re turned from overseas service in the European theater before coming home via Fort Lewis, Wash. Corps To Meet Mrs. Anne Barnes of Community hospital will speak on the "Use of Oxy gen" at a meeting of the Red Cross Nurses Aide corps Friday at the home of Mrs. G. W. Guches, 1223 West Main street at 8 p. m. Miss Mary Gray, Red Cross field representative for nursing will be a guest at the meeting. Following the program a social hour will be held and refreshments served. To Return Eugene Wayne Cummlngs, S 1c, is expected to arrived In Medford tomorrow to spend a leave with his wife- at 407 South Newtown avenue. Cummings has been in the navy armed guard for the past year and a half and in a telephone message to Mrs. Cummlngs last night stated that the merchant ship on which he was stationed was sunk In the South Pacific late in December. The Cum mings have a small son whom his father has not seen since he was three weeks old. Mrs. Cummings is making her home with her mother, 'Mrs. George Schneble. To Church Meet Miss Lillian Frazler, Mrs. Agnes Hackler, and George Bales of the Talent Friends church; with Mrs. Hom er McAdams, representing the Medford church, will leave Frt day to attend quarterly sessions of the denomination, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Rosedale church in Salem. Bales will return Saturday night and occupy the pulpit at the Talent church Sunday morning. He has attended the annual ministerial conference of the Friends, the past week at Pacific college, Newberg. In the northern part of the state he preached at the Rosedale church, , Salem, and College church, Newberg. CURRY IS PROIIED 10 1ST LIEUTENANT Allen D. Curry, 805 Benson street, has received a wire from his son, Neal A'. Curry, stationed with the 79th General hospital in England, notifying him of his promotion to first lieutenant. Lt. Curry, who is acting ad jutant for the general hospital, went overseas in October 1943, and has been in the army ap proximately three years. He graduated from Medford high school and worked for the First National bank here, In Ashland and later at Hood River. He was stationed at Camp White at one time. In a letter recently to his fath er, Curry mentioned seeing uougias den In a London USO. after finding his name just ahead of his own on a guest book at the club. Bob Leonard also of Med ford called on Curry at his hos pital.. Mr. Curry has two other chil dren In service. They are TSgt. Robert Wayne, AAF, stationed at Kisslmmee, Fla., In service over three years, and a daugh ter, Phyllis, a private first class in the Wac, currently stationed at Camp Pickett, Va., who has two years of military service. War 'Bond 'Buying Jackson county purchased but 64 per cent of its quota of war bonds for January according to the last report on bond pur chases issued by the treasury department and received by Henry Zacharlsen, county bond sales chairman. The county E," "F" and "G" quota for the month had been set at $231,000 and total sales amounted to but $148,823, the report shows. The chairman states that the February quota is $211,000 and he Is hopeful that citizens will increase their purchases this month.
