JOHN DAY'S BULL TOP COIN I Winner's Reward John Day's Blue Moon ranch consigned top selling bull at the Rogue Valley Hereford Breed ers' sale at Phoenix yesterday. The bull, Prince M. OJ-B The great promise of heretofore discarded asparagus butts has been dis covered at the Western Regional Research laboratory, U. S. de partment of agriculture, accord ing to a recent announcement. Seeking an economic use for the 50,000 to 100,000 tons of as paragus butts and trimmings thrown away yearly by vege table packers, scientists have found that juice pressed from these butts can be used as a cul ture medium to produce bacter ial proteinase. The enzyme, bacterial protein ase, may be used for chill-proof ing malted beverages, degum ming silk, deproteinizatlon of rubber latex, recovery of silver from used photographic film, the tleanir.l of delicate fabrics and other industrial purposes. Researchers predict that asparagus-butt juice may well re place other vegetable materials now scarce. UJl Relieve misery, as meat molten do.
