Society and Clubs Elizaberth Bare Becomes Bride Of Lt. Copies Announcement has been made of the wedding of Miss Elizabeth Bare, daughter of Mrs. H. U. Mitchell, 534 Franquette street, to Lt. Willis H. Caples, son of Mr. and Mrs. V. S. Caples of Las Vegas, Nev. The rites took place December 20 at the post chapel, Camp Bowie, Texas, the double ring Episcopal service being read by Chaplain O. - H. Mc Kenny before an altar arranged with flowers. Tha bride's wedding dress was of white wool. She wore a white flowered hat with a , shoulder length veil and carried a white prayer book with flowers. Her attendant was her sister, Miss Jean Bare of Brownwood, Tex., who was gowned in a beige dress worn with brown accessories and a brown hat. Capt. Robert J. Dean of Port land gave the bride in marriage and best man for the groom was Lt. Richard E. Moshofskl of Beaverton, Ore. Ushers were Lt. Elroy McCart of San Francisco and Lt. John F. Sullinger of Philadelphia. Members of Lt. Caples' com pany attended the service in a group. A wedding reception at the post officers' club followed the wedding. Both Lt. Caples and his bride are well known in Medford. Mrs. Caples is a graduate of Medford senior high school and attended Oregon State college where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta national sorority. Lt. Caples attended Medford high school and later graduated from the University of Oregon, where he was affili ated with Phi Sigma Kappa na tional fraternity. He was com' missioned at armored officers' candidate school at Ft. Knox, Ky., and was then assigned to Camp Bowie. . Lt. and Mrs. Caples are mak ing their home at Willow Gar dens Court, Brownwood, Tex., lor the present. Miss Mary Jacobs, Corporal Williams Married Recently Among recent weddings was that of Miss Mary Jane Jacobs. a daughter of the late Mrs. Mar garet Jacobs, who became the bride of Corporal Vernon E. Williams at a ceremony held Saturday, Jan. 6. Corporal Wil liams is the son of C. A. Wtt liams of Calexico, Calif. The service was read by the Rev. Wolford A. Dawes at his home. The bride wore suit of light blue with black accessories and a shoulder corsage of gar denias. Her attendant, Miss Eve lyn Fredericks of this city, wore a pirnc suit with black accessor. les and her flowers were a cor sage of red roses. Pfc. Don- am McDonald. -pi. ana Mrs. Williams are making their home at 302V4 Maple street, the groom being stationed at Camp White with the prisoner of war unit. Legislation Topic For Union Meeting Legislation was the topic dis- cussea at tne meeting of the Medford Women's Christian Temperance union Thursday anernoon, held at the Methodist church. President Susie B. Stan dard conducted the meeting. EX' cerpts were read from state and national papers from the bfficial paper of the union. Mrs. Rose Berry presented the devotionals and the Mesdames vera Smith and Love Montieth sang a duet, with Mrs. E. M Cobb at the -piano. Little Char- lene Stenerson sane two num. bers, accompanied by Mrs, Ethel van i.ieave. The Rev. D. D. Randall spoke of his work with rural residents of Southern Oregon and he and Mrs. Kandall sane a duet. The February meeting of the union will honor Frances Wil. lard. A rummaee sale is nlanned by the union and members are asked to prepare material. Refreshments were served by Mrs. LeClerc, Mrs. Lucy Lyman ana Mrs. Mary Ieo. Mrs. Lon Russell of Newton, Kan., was a visitor at the meet ing. . ' Knights, Sisters Plan Installation Knlehts of Pvthlan and Pvth. Ian Sisters lodges will hold joint installation of officers Tuesday at tne K. of P. hall at 8 n. m Friends of lodge members are urged to attend. Mrs. Alice Bilderback Is to be Installed most excellent chief of Pythian Sisters, the retiring chief being Maude Stewart. James Stewart will be the new chancellor commander of Knights of Pythias, succeeding Ray Cline Announce Troth Of Miss Shearer To Lewis Conger Announcement has been made of the engagement of Miss Mau rine Shearer to Lewis E. Conger Miss Shearer Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Shearer of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Mr. Conger's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Conger, Ross Lane. Although no definite date has been set for the wedding, it is to be in the near future. Both Miss Shearer and her fiance are well known here. Miss Shearer, a clerk for the Rogue River National Forest Service for the past three years, is presi dent of the Medford Business and Professional Women's club. She attended Oregon State col lege where she was a member of Sigma Kappa, national soror ity. Mr. Conger has resided, in the valley his entire life and at tended Medford schools. Gold Hill Team To Be In City For Lodge Meet Wtih Grand Master Newham and an installing team from uold Hill here for the cere monies, Olive Rebekah lodge No. 28 and Medford lodge No. 83, I.O.O.F. will hold installation of 1945 officers tomorrow night. Rebekahs will meet at 7:30 p. m. for a business session and the ceremonies are to take place at 8 p. m. ' Ina Huson, district deputy president of Olive Rebekah lodge, will install for that or der, assisted by the Gold Hill team. The evening will close with refreshments and it is stated that visitors are welcome. Couple Entertains For House Guests Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Finch entertained a group of friends at a card party last Saturday evening in honor of their house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nichols of Pomona, Calif. The Nichols are spending a week In Mettlord. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Atwel, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cannon and daughter, Nola, Mr, and Mrs. A. T, Coppedge and daughter, Jean,; Miss Ernestine Blgham, all of Medford, Mrs, Mary Frances Smith of West Virginia, who is visiting at the nome or tne Halls, and Mr. and Mrs. Linnwood Mathews and daughter, Mary Jane, of Central point. Club To Present Four-H Proaram . A Four-H club program will be presented at the meeting of the Medford Business and Pro fessional Women's clubs sched. uled for Thursday evening of this week at the Girls' Commu nity club. Miss Marian Farrell, home demonstration agent and chairman of the education and health committee of the club. will present the program. The Table Rock home economics club under the leadership of .Mrs. Frank Myers, and a group oi winners in tne style revue held at the Four-H fair, will take part in the program. Dessert will be served by the committee at 8 o'clock. Crater Lake Guild Meets At Church A musical program, followed by games, was given at the Jan uary meeting of Crater Lake Guild held Monday evening in tne Presbyterian church parlors. Mrs. E. G. Randolph sang two selections, with Mrs. H. E. Marsh at the piano. Mrs. Harry Hansen ana miss Georglana Hussong won first prizes during the games. Medford Couple - 1 Hold Open House . On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Wetterer celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, January 7, with a family dinner and open house at their home, 624 West Eleventh street.- .Dinner : was served at 1 o'clock from a table decorated with silver candle sticks and tapers and was fol lowed by the open house for friends. With her parents for the day was Mrs. Leslie Hanunett of Medford, and Mr. Hammett. The Wetterer's son, Cpl. Joseph A wetterer, Is in France. . , Mr. and Mrs. Wetterer, who have resided in Medford for the past ten years, were: married January 7, 1920, in Roberts, Mont. Serviceman Weds Local Resident In Home Service Miss Adeline Flach and Pfc. Earl Speck were married Satur day, January 6, at a quiet cere mony at the home" of Mrs. Ray Wyant, 208 Clark street. The groom Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Flach, Per ham, Minn., and Pfc. Speck is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Speck of Merced, Calif. The service was read at 8 o'clock in the evening by Elder Thompson of the Seventh Day Adventlst church, a floral ar rangement of snapdragons and carnations with palms forming a background for the bridal par ty. For the service the bride wore a floorlength gown of pink net and a corsage of pink camellias. Her attendant, Mrs. Elsworth McCamman of Fern Valley was gowned in white and wore gar denias. Mr. McCamman was best man for Pfc. Speck. For the present the bride and groom will reside at the Wyant nome, Ptc. Speck being station ed briefly at Camp White. He re turned to this country shortly be fore the ceremony from the Aleutian islands where he had been on duty with the army. I he bride came here several months ago from Minnesota and since then has been making her nome with the Wyants. Two Lodges Hold Installation Of Year's Officers Pocahontas and Redmen lodges held joint installation of officers at a meeting which took place January 5 at the Redmen hall. Deputy Great Incahone Dick Singler of the Redmen, as sisted by Great Mishinewa Jack Dooms, with an installing team, conducted the ceremonies for the Redmen. Deputy Great Incahone Velma Singler of the Pocahontas council, with Norma Martin as senior past chief and an instal ling team, presided over the Pocahontas ceremonies. ' Elective chiefs raised to their respective stations for ,the Red- men lodge were Jack Ward, Sachem; Lewis Bish, Sr., Sagi more; Harold Biglow, Junior Sagimore; P. M. Aldrldge, proph et; Theo Anseth, keeper of wam pum; Orval Hayes, keeper of records. Installed for the Pocahontas lodge were Helen Dooms, Poca hontas; Zelda Brown, prophetess; Marie Hansen, Wenonah; Henry Dooms, Powhatan; Gladys Dooms, keeper of the records; Dorotha Watkins, collector of wampum; Bessie Thompson, .keeper of wampum, A number of short talks fol lowed the ceremonies .and the evening closed with a pie auc tion. Missionary Group To Meet Tuesday Mrs. Josephine Iverson will speak on "Timely Topics" at the meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary society to be held Tuesday at the church. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p. m. Mrs. Victor Blrdseye will be In charge of devotions and Mrs. W. J. Burbldge will sing. A social hour will follow the program. Mrs. Eubanks is tha former Joan Stoehr who made her home in Medford with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Ms. C. T. Steward. Eastwood Drive. January Meeting Musical Society To Be Tomorrow ' Presenting the program for the January meeting of the Med ford Musical society will be Mrs. Howard Bush, Mrs. Rhea Hoov er and Sgt. The initiation ceremony was led by Bernice Alford, mem bership chairman, assisted by Ruth Parker, Mary Jacobs, Edna Overmeyer, Ina Goldsmith, Net tie Ellenburg and Elsie Strang, ' Following the business meet ing members of the post and unit were entertained by Joanna Wyatt, who was recently chosen as "Miss Jackson County." Miss Wyatt sang several vocal num bers accompanied by Elsie Carl ton Strang. Major Hughes of Ashland gave an interesting talk on the two rugs he brought from Persia recently, Refreshments were served by Marie Ray and Doris Baize. The next meeting of the unit on January 24 will be spent in cutting for the Red Cross. University Women To Hear Speaker On UNO Conference Provisions of the Dumbarton Oaks conference for a United Nations organization will be ex plained by Mrs. Melvin N. Hogan at the January meeting of the Medford branch of the American Association of Uni versity Women. The meeting will be Wednesday of this week at the home of Mrs. Justin Smith 21 Geneva street, at 8 p. m. Assisting hostesses will be Mrs. Marguerite Mills, Miss Elizabeth McGalllard and Miss Josephine Koppes. Sojourners' Club Holds Meeting ' Hostesses for the meeting of Medford Sojourners' club Thurs day afternoon were Mrs. George Turney, Mrs. Nelson Chllders and Mrs. D. Ray Allred, with Mrs. Turney serving as chair man.
