Pitts, AMM 1c, son of Mrs. Almeda Budge of route 1, is home on a 30-day leave. Pitts has been serving as plane captain with a patrol squadron in the Pacific .war theater for the past 10 months. Pitts will report to Jacksonville, Fla., at the con clusion of his leave. i In Texas Aviation Cadet Oran C. Chastain of route 3, box 197, Medford, is with a class of cadets now receiving pre flight training at the San An tonio, Tex., cadet center accord ing to a news release from the center. According to the release the future fliers are subjected to rigorous 10-week program of instruction covering physical academic and military training. To Give Party The Phoenix neighbors of Woodcraft No. 242 will entertain juveniles of the organization with a holiday party Thursday evening of this week, the affair to be at the Grange hall at 7 o'clock. Whillock and Mrs. Whll lock were in Medford-briefly over the week-end to visit the commander's mother, Mrs. C. .W. Whillock, 714 West Tenth street, and other relatives and friends. Com. ' Held la Yreka Buford Allen, John W Childen and Wayne Hlte, all of Medford, were held by state police authorities early Monday morning in Yreka on charges of drunken driving, ac cording to a local police report. The car was driven by Buford Allen who said it was registered to Ira Childers, principal of a Phoenix school, according to po lice. RUTH SIMMS FUNERAL TO BE HELD THURSDAY Albuquerque, N. M., Jan 2 (U.R) Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Hanna McCormick Slmms, 64, former congressman at large from Illinois and republi can national committeewoman from New Mexico who died Sun day at Chicago, will be held Thursday in St. John's Episco pal cathedral. Mrs. Simms, the daughter of the late Sen. Mark Hanna of Ohio and publisher of the Rock ford, 111., Register-Republic and Rockford Morning Star, died in her sleep. She had been operat ed upon for an acute pancreatic ailment three weeks ago and had been in serious condition since Dec. 26. NEGRO TO LEGISLATURE Shoreham, Vt. Gar rison, 93, who passed away at his home, 838 West Second street, Friday evening, will be held In the Conger-Morris chapel at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday with the Rev. T. O. Saterfleld offic iating. Interment will be in Sis kiyou Memorial Park. - He was born In Pickowa coun ty, Ohio, December 11, 1851 and had been a resident of this community for the past 20 years. When he was 20, he was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Clan ton, who passed away in Med ford, March 1, 1938. At the age of 35 he was converted into the Methodist church in Anderson county, Kansas. Ten years later he united with the Free Metho dist church and remained an ac tive member in the old radical or Holiness line until his pass- ina. Two of six children survive: Wm. E. Garrison, Medford: Mrs Bertha Donaldson, Portland; also four brothers and a sister, Lewis. Bent, Wayne and' Allie Garrison and Mrs. Dora Lyons, all In Ohio. CAPTURES 3 WITH MESS KIT Auburn, Ind. Buttermore was going chow, mess kit In hand, at his American camp in Germany, when three Germans stepped out of a building. Loss of three lesser-craft also was disclosed. The Harder, holder of a pres idential unit citation for sink ing thousands of tons of Jap anese shipping, was the 35UI U. S. submarine lost in this war. The other lost vessels were the landing craft LSM-018 and the motor torpedo boat, Pt-300, which were last in the Philip pines area, and the Pt-311 which was destroyed In the Mediter ranean area.
