Relatives Here Mr. and Mrs. Learning of Albertson, Mont., ar rived by train last week to spend the holidays here with Mrs. Learning's mother, Mrs. A. L. Gall, 4 South Orange street, and Mr. Learning's relatives in Tal ent. Mr. Learning is a conductor on the Milwaukee railroad. Examiner Coming A travel ing examiner of operators and chauffeurs is scheduled to ar rive in Medford and will be on duty at the KP hall Friday and Saturday from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. All those wishing permits or licenses to drive cars are asked to get in touch with the examiner during these hours. Dinner Announced Town- send clubs No. 1 and 4 of Med ford are having a potluck dinner and Christmas party tomorrow night in the K. of P. hall, it was announced today. Dinner will be served at 6 p. m. and will be fol lowed by a program and pinoche party. All Townsendites and friends are invited to at tend. Nephew Killed Pvt. Donald Legault, a nephew of Mrs. Alice Vincent of this city, was killed Dec. 20 while fighting on the European front according to in formation received by Mrs. Vin cent. Pvt. Legault was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hap Legault of Eugene. He had been in service for two years and was twice wounded before suffering the fatal wound. Couple Leaves Mr. and Mrs Alan Fleischer will leave tomor row morning for Merced, Calif., where Mr. Fleischer will enter basic flight .training In the army air corps. The Fleischers have been spending the holidays with friends and relatives In the val ley. Mr. Fleischer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Fleischer of Central Point and Mrs. Fleischer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Nealon of Table Rock. Lands on Leyte TSgt. Roger Tresham, a graduate of Sams Valley high school, was one of the United States soldiers to land on Leytc, according to word received by relatives. He enlisted with the army air corps in 1939 and has been overseas 18 months. Sgt. Tresham writes that he longs for Medford pears and Rogue river fish. He is the son of O. R. Tresham of Sams Valley and Mrs. Fay D. Tresham of Portland. Christian passed away at a local hospital early Wed nesday. His death was due to an automobile accident on Christ mas day. He was born at Tulia Texas, September 7, 1892. On December 12, 1932, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Dean at Klamath Falls. Mr. Christian leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Eliza beth Christian, one daughter. Lorena Francis, of Medford; three brothers, A. B. Christian, Holbrook, Ariz., and J. F. Chris tian, Tulsa, Tex., and Logan Christian, Harper, Ore. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Perl Funeral Home at 2 p. m. The Rev. W. G. Shear- born of the Four Square Gospel church will officiate and inter ment will follow in Medford I.O.O.F. cemetery. Little Girl Waits Death By Leukemia, Dread Blood Illness Aurora, 111., Dec. 28V-U.P- Too young to know the mean ing of death, six-year-old Pa tricia Attaway, a victim of lym phatic Leukemia, an incurable blood disease, lies today in a hospital filled with toys she never will be able to enjoy, and talks of days when she will be well enough to go to school. The pretty, brown-haired lit tle girl has been living on bor rowed time for weeks, but her physician, Dr. E. M. Thomas, said it was nearly exhausted and death may come at any mo ment. "Only a miracle can save her," Thomas said. "Indeed, it is a miracle that she has lived this long." All the Christmas toys dear to the heart of a child fill her room, but she eyes them list lessly. Her main interest is in her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Attaway, who keep a constant vigil at her bedside. Harry Hansen officiating. CALIFORNIA MAN NAMED TO HIGHCHINESE POST Chungking, Dec. 28. (U.R) Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek has appointed Ma. Gen. Robert B. McClure, 48, of Palo Alto, Calif., as deputy chief of staff to the supreme commander in the China theater, it was offic ially announced today. The new position assures Mc Clure of "direct contact with the generalissimo at all times," the announcement said. E. F. ALEXANDER, LONG TIME RESIDENT PASSES Everett F. Alexander, a resi dent of Medford for a number of years passed away at a local hospital early Thursday morn ing following a long illness. Eden, 21-year-old Medford, Ore., bom bardier, has been commissioned second lieutenant from his pre vious rank of flight officer at the 100th bombardment group base. Second Lt. Eden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville A. Eden of 211 Genessee street, was a sopho more student at the University of Oregon at Eugene before en tering the army air forces. He his dropped many tons of ex plosives bn enemy targets in many parts of Germany, having participated in more than a score of missions against the enemy.
