i Society and CLUBS Local Study Club Meets Wednesday A large number were present for the meeting of the Wednes day Study club, held at the Girls' Community club Wednes day afternoon. A short business session was followed by a pro gram, in charge of Mrs. H. T. Hodges. Seasonal decorations were used, with mistletoe and holly and a Christmas tree bearing lifts for everyone. All joined in singing "Silent fight," led by Mrs. F. E. Nich ols. Mrs. W. E. Crews read a Christmas poem written by Sam uel Simpson, "The Eve of Christ" and also recited "The Night Before Christmas." Mrs. F. K. Deuel read a holiday story by Margaret Cousins. Following the program, the meeting was turned over to the , good times committee headed by Mrs. Harold Brown, assisted by Mrs. Dolph Phipps, Mrs. F. K. Deuel and Mrs. Frances Cochran and Mrs. Iverson. Refreshments were served from a table decorated with Holly and pine sprigs, cones and red tapers. Mrs. Mary Jacobs and Mrs. H. G. Wortman poured, Lady Lions Meet Friday Evening Games, singing and gifts pre- sented by Santa Claus were tea A tured at the Lady Lions' meet ing held at the home of Mrs. Henry Zacharisen, 714 Beekman avenue, Friday evening. Refresh ments were served later in the evening by Mrs. Zacharisen, as sisted by Mrs. Earl Miller and Mrs. Claude Haggard. Each member attending brought home-made candy, which will be taken to the Camp White Station Hospital Christ mas eve. Those attending were the Mesdames L. Atterbury, Frank Collins, Tom Flynn-, George Goodman, Leland Knox, Wren Orey, N. Mainich, Don Rowe, Cliff Proctor, Frank Runtz, Earl Sims, M. Schino, Glenn Linn, E. M. Wilson, and the hostesses, Mesdames Zacharisen, Miller and Haggard. Roll Call Answered With 'Superstition" A Gold Hill. Roll call was an- swered by each member reading a Christmas "superstition" at the meeting of the Garden club, held at the home of Mrs. Bob Kies, Dec. 15. Mrs. J. D. Bryan was co-hostess. Potluck luncheon was served before the business meeting, after which members played games and gifts were exchanged Next regular meeting will be Jan. 5, at the home of Mrs. Wal ter McLean, when roll call will be answered with a New Year's thought, poem or story. Present were the Mesdames Byran, Kles, Holderness, Gil christ, Moore, Carter, Force, Kellogg, Tulare, Dorman, Mc Lean, Thompson, Ritter, Hygart, Routh, Hittle, Frost and Shoe maker. Miss Nancy Day Receives Degree Friends of Miss Nancy Day daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl B Day of Salem, formerly of Med- ford, will be interested to learn that Miss Day has received her degree from the school of arts at the University of Washington, where she majored in drama under Professor Glenn Hughes, Miss Day attended Oregon state college for three years before going to the Seattle school. She is the sister of John Day, Medford, and of Ben Day, Sams Valley. Marilyn Pasica, Marshall Smith Married At Yreka Marshall V. Smith, radarman second class, United States navy. and Staff Sgt. Marilyn B. Pasica ot the women s army corps, were married In Yreka, Calif., Decem ber 14, and are now visiting at the home of Mr. Smith's parents in Phoenix. Smith has Just returned from 18 months duty in the south Pa cific area, where his unit par ticipated In two major battles and was awarded the presiden tial unit citation. VictoryCkib Has Concluding Meeting Christmas decorations of poin- settas and holly were used at the last meeting this year of the Vic tory Social club of Reames Chap ter, O.E.S., Wednesday afternoon at the Masonic building. Mrs. George Hlles, president, presented gifts to her officers, Mrs. L. S. Ettinger, Mrs. R. Markwart and Mrs. F. Little, in appreciation of their service, Preceding the luncheon, Mrs, Hershel Morris, accompanied by Mrs. Herb Crain, sang two Christmas numbers. Games, an exchange of gifts and group singing of carols, in charge of Mrs. Wallace Jewett were enjoyed during the after noon. Bank Employees Hold Xmas Party Employees of both the Med ford and Ashland branches of the First National Bank of Port land gathered in the Blue Room of the Holland Hotel last. Satur day evening for the annual Christmas party. Dinner was served to about 40 persons, fol lowed by a quiz program and gift exchange. Mrs. LaVern Dungey acted as master of ceremonies for the program, which ended with group singing of Christmas carols. , Fidlers Entertain Carolers Thursday Mr. and Mrs. C. Lyall Fidler entertained at a Christmas gath ering Thursday evening at their home on Ross Lane. The group spent the evening driving around town, singing carols in various districts, and concluded at the Fidler home where a midnight supper was served. Present were Mr. and Mrs, Frank Humphrey, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Milnes, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Selby and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Manno. i Mrs. Ruth Homes Bovd Guests From Washington At Harold Brown Home Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brown of 105 Geneva street have as house guests over Christmas Mr, and Mrs. Mathew Picken of Ton- asket, Wash. Arriving in Med ford Friday, they will be here until after Christmas, when they plan to leave for California. Goes North for Christmas. Mrs. Ruth H. Boyd left Friday for Spokane to visit relatives over the Christmas holidays. She plans to spend Christmas day at Farragut, Idaho, visiting her son, David Holmes, stationed there with the navy. . Miss Hazel Swayne is acting as director of the Markade in Mrs. Boyd's ab sence. Mrs. Boyd was accompanied to Portland by Mrs. Jack L. Carr and Miss Helen Brown. Mrs. Carr plans to meet her husband, an overseas veteran, coming from a North Carolina hospital and Miss Brown will visit her mother. 1 ' Visitor From East At McRevnolds Home Mrs. Ann Lindesmith arrived here early this week from Cleve land, Ohio, to spend the holidays with her daughter-in-law, Mrs Robert Lindesmith, and the lat ter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward McReynolds, 1404 West Main street. Mrs. Lindesmith will remain until the first of the year, when she will resume her trip to Phoenix, Ariz., where she in tends to spend the winter months. Capt. Robert Lindesmith Is with the 98th Division In the Philippine islands. DAV Auxiliary Meeting Cancelled by Commander Regular business meeting oi the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary, originally scheduled for Dec. 26, has been cancelled according to announcement of the commander, Mrs. Bessie Meals. A meeting of the execu tive board will be called In Jan uary, she adds, time and place to be announced later. What the Girl Scouts Are Doing Members of Troop 5. Interme diate Girl Scouts, Jackson school were entertained at a Chirstmas party Thursday afternoon at the home of the leader, Mrs. W. R. Finch, 1309 Loca - street. Mrs. Finch was assisted by two troop committee members, Mrs. Hom er Blum and Mrs. Lloyd Smylie. Children Invited To View Holiday Scene At Medford Harry Watson, manager of the Hotel Medford, has issued an in vitation to all Sunday school teachers to bring their children to view the Bible scene of the three shepherds and the Star of Bethleham as artistically por trayed in the hotel lobby for the Christmas season. A large white Christmas tree adorns the background of the display. The scene, which is open to the public, will be on ex hibit until after the New Year, Mr. Watson said. 80th JAP ADMIRAL DIES By United Press The death of another Japan ese admiral, the 80th reported since May 17, was disclosed to day in a Japanese Domei dis patch recorded by FCC. The dispatch said the Kure naval station had reported the death of Rear Admiral Tomojiro Kaneoka but gave no details.
