Miss Evanson, formerly stu dent at Mills college, has been Studying with Benjamin Moore in San Francisco and is distin guished for her many success ful concert and recital appear ances in the Bay region. ;.' Grigs- by. and Clubs Annual Dinner Given Tuesday By Rotary Club About ISO Rotarians and their wives attended the annual Ro tary Christmas party, in the main dining room of the Hotel Medford last Tuesday noon. Dr. Stanley Phillips, president of the Rotary club, presided, with Dr. W. W. P. Holt acting as toast- master and Mrs. Melvin Plaskett responding for the Ladles of Ro tary, Tho main address was given by the Rev. George Turney, rec tor of St. Mark's Episcopal church, who spoke on the legend of the ' Sacred Flame." A group of school children, led by Syd ney Bouck, sang. Tables were decorated In holi day colors, with holly and green ery. Local Centers Plan Festivities For Servicemen Christmas celebrations for men and women of the armed services in Medford over the holidays Include several activi ties at local servicemen's cen ters, the Junior Officers' Out post, the MarKade and the River side USO. ' Open house with egg nogs, will be held at the Outpost at 6 p. m. today, followed by a sup per. Entertainment will be fur nished by Mrs. Dorothy Gore Davis, violinist, and Miss June Williams, who will sing, and a Christmas tree will be held later in the evening. Regular open house will be held Monday at the Outpost. Group singing of Christmas carols and informal entertain ment will be featured at the Riverside USO tonight, with music by an Hawaiian band. Monday, Christmas day, a smor gasbord dinner will be served In the evening, followed by in formal entertainment. Formal dances were held at the Riverside USO Friday night, and at the MarKade Saturday. Music for the Riverside dance was by Ray's Rhythmaires, and Pfc. Joseph D. Barber acted as master of ceremonies. Decora tions were arranged by Melva Morrell and Mildred Shellbarger. BYWC Xmas Party At Community Club The annual Business and Pro fessional Women's club Christ mas party was held at the Girls' Community club Friday evening, Dec. IS. Games and group sing ing were enjoyed, and gifts were exchanged, each member bring ing a piece of costume jewelry fof the tree. The club's Christ mas gift had previously been made in the form of gifts to sol diers In the Camp White Station Hospital. Individual members had donated $29 to this fund. Holly corsages were given to each person when refreshments were served later In the evening. Guests present were Mrs. Lu netta Bussey, Mrs. Gertrude Mc Kay, Miss Leona Conger, Mrs. Margery Glbbs, Mrs. Frances Willett, Mrs. Madeline Klinefel ter and Mrs. Ruth Boyu. Oregon Society Of DAR Reports Christmas Work Work done and gifts con tributed by the Daughters of the American Revolution to insure a merry Christmas for several men and women in the armed forces was described this week by Mrs. B. B. Lowry, state regent of the Oregon society, D.A.R. Sponsorship of the L.C.I. (L) 609, navy ship now operating in tne pacific theatre of war. was awarded to the Oregon D.A.R., and Mrs. U. G. Smith of Port land, state chairman of the D.A.R. war service coordination. reports that from every one of the thirty chapters in the state have gone letters, cards and gifts for every man on board the ship. The State Society has sent each man a fruit cake, and a sub stantial sum was raised for the purchase of a motion picture pro jector for showing pictures on board ship. "Buddy bags" containing all kinds of small articles have been prepared for distribution and in D.A.R. homes throughout Oregon, men and women in uni form will be entertained during the . Christmas holidays. Many gifts have been contributed also to the. service centers. Noted Violinist To Appear Jan. 11 In First Concert First in the series of concerts to be presented this season by the Civic Music Association will be heard Thursday, Jan. 11, when Joseph Szigeti, violinist, will ap pear, assisted by Harry Kaufman at the piano. Lowry, state regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Mrs. Frances Cochran of Medford were guests of Mount Ashland Chapter of the DAR at a 1 o'clock luncheon at the Lithia Hotel In Ashland Fri day, Dec. 15. Mrs Lowry spoke on work being done by the or ganization in the present war. Bouquets of barberry and berries, and red candles were used on the table. Miss Lydia Mc Call and Mrs. Alice Peil were in charge of luncheon arrange ments. Gulbrandson Family Visiting In Medford v Dr. and Mrs. E. Wayne Gul brandson and daughters, Karen and Kay, arrived in Medford Thursday to spend the holidays visiting Mrs. Gulbrandson's mother and grandmother, Mrs. Bernice Kunzman and Mrs. Cora Carder at 607 West 8th street. Yuletide Greetings Evergreen Studios extend to one and all most cordial wishes for a-Verrie Merrle Christmasl UP SPECIAL LIGHT "PORTRAITS OF DISTINCTION' Station Hospital Patients Feted With Yule Parties Plans made by the Jackson County Camp and Hospital com mittee for the Christmas cele bration at the Camp White Sta tion hospital include a Christ mas Eve party and a program for the patients on Christmas Day. For the Sunday night party, the Medford high school choir of 23 voices, under direction of Mabel Nansen will sing carols, followed by group singing. Re freshments of popcorn balls and cookies, donated by the Boy Scouts, candy from the Lady Lions and Women of Rotary, and apples and pears from the Amer ican Fruit Growers will be served. The men will also re ceive gifts from the Salvation Army, . . Decorations of green wreaths and garlands furnished by the Medford Garden club, and Christmas tree trimmings from the Junior Red Cross will be used. Mrs. Eve Prentice and her ac cordion, band will entertain at 9:30 a. m. Christmas day, and gifts purchased for the men by various Medford and Ashland or ganizations and wrapped by the Junior Red Cross will be dis tributed. At 3 p. m. the Roose velt school glee club will be at the hospital to sing carols. Pre-holiday activities at the hospital included a girls' party on December 7, Pearl Harbor Day, followed on December 8 by a Bingo party. Entertainers at the Bingo party were Carol Davis, Jo Ann Blunkell and Maxine Powell, all students of the Eve Prentice Accordion Studio. . Another party was held Dec. 14 when 27 Medford girls went to the hospital for an informal entertainment. Friday, Dec, IS, a varied musical show was given for the men by Mrs. Elsie Alex ander and her string band, con sisting of Cecilia Bobbett, Mar guerite Hickman, Ruth Keizur June Davis, Evelyn Jones and Armand Meyers. Roger Hog strom and Lloyd Heath played accordion numbers, and Nancy Swem played the piano. The last three are all pupils of Sebastian Apollo. Wilson was hos tess at a Christmas party for the Crater Lake Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Wilson was assisted by Mrs. T. J. Gifford and Mrs. V o 1 n e y Dixon. The regular business meeting was held with the regent, Mrs. O. H. Brenneman, presiding. Mrs. G. Q. D'Albini, chairman of the good citizenship pilgrimage, announced the names of two girls, Charlotte Niedermeyer of Jacksonville and Nancy Swem of Medford, to be sponsored by Crater Lake chapter in the state contest. Owing to war conditions, winner of the state contest will not make the trip to the national conference next spring, as in past years, but will be given a hun dred dollar war bond. Christmas carols were sung. led by Mrs. Dixon with Mrs. H. E. Marsh accompanying. Miss Sara Van Meter told of early Christmas customs in different countries. Later, the twenty-two members present had a gift ex change, ... Refreshments were served from a beautifully appointed table, decorated with holiday greens and centered with a statuette of Christ, flanked with white candles. Episcopal Church Services Tonight And Christmas Day Special Christmas music by the choir, under direction of Roberta Ward Bebb, will be pre sented at the traditional mid night choral service and Euchar ist at St. Mark's Episcopal church tonight at 11:15 o'clock. Both young men are stationed at the Alameda Air Transport Station, Alameda, Calif.-'
