EIGHT MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE -WadnasdaT. Dae. 1(44 Your Health and Its Care BY DR. WILLIAM BRADY. M. D. Readers tbould addrasa tnqulrias tot Dt. William Brady ' 26S El Camino. BaVarly HUls. Calif. CRANK ABO Members of my family some times complain bitterly that whatever they complain of seems always to can for fresh air and- exercise. Meaning they have to groan like the devil to get an okeh for any medi cine from me. But then, a doctor, even a real doctor, should n e vie r at t e m p t . to Di BradT treat members of his family or even more dis tant relatives. : I do believe reasonable amount of exercise Is good- for nearly everybody. It is perfectly evident, to my mind, that a great many people suffer from lack of. neglect of or insufficient cultiva tion of daily exercise physical work, playing games, athletics or Just gymnastic or callsthenlc exercise. For the geek who conducts this" column a fair minimum amount of exercise for a day consists of. say a dozen rolls, a dozen of each of the movements of the Last Brady Symphony as indicated and Illustrated in "The 7 Keys to Vlte" (for copy send 25 cents and stamped pre-addressed . envelope), half, a dozen runs up and down one flight of stairs, a walk of seven' blocks to the bowling green, one or two games of lawn bpwls, .".a - walk back home, three or four sprints upstairs to the studio to see that - all the .girls punch the time clock, etc., and so another day. That is the minimum amount of physical activity for a mature adult,' I believe. . ' -Now listen to this Montreal lad. He is 64 and for five years he has spent 20 to 30 minutes every morning in bending exer cises, in spite of the views of some authorities aboUt-the dan gers of exercise for persons past ' 80 or 60. Moreover. he does 1000 of the standlng-and-touching-toes bends, or e 1 s e . 1000 ly Inn-on-back-a n d-ralsing-legs-to vertical. But now he wonders whether there is any actual dan ger to the heart or arteries If he continues his dally stint as de scribed. " ' First, I don't believe exercise is particularly good for constipa tion, or rather I should say a rea sonable ' amount of I exercise dally such as walking three to six miles will do everything for constipation that any more strenuous exercise possibly can do. , Whether the lad should go right on doing his thousand setting-up movements dally he him self can answer far better than I can. If he feels oke immediate ly after the seance and one or more hours afterward, the in dulgence is oke. If he doesn't feel fine and dandy right after the exercise or an hour or two afterward, then he had better ease down to a reasonable num ber of movements at each seance from half a dozen to 20 or 30. If he still doesn't feel o good after the exercise, then he "had better consult his physician. Houston, Tex., Dec. 8 (U.R) A halr-ralslng story of imprison ment in the Philippines for two and a half years and final escape from his captors by diving from a Japanese "slaughter boat" was told today by Tech. Sgt. Denver R. Rose, home after his Pacific nightmare, Rose, a defender of Bataan and Corregidor and one of those forced to take- the infa mous "march of death", consid ers himself the luckiest man in the world. . The 23-year-old Houston sol dier, a native of 'Forth Smith, Ark., escaped from a Jap prison ship during a prisoner transfer in the Philippines some months ago. He escaped once after the ship was torpedoed, swam four miles to an island, was. recap tured, and escaped again. Near Land "I was within SO miles of land," Rose said, "when the Japs came up in small boats and caught about 30 of us. "They tied our hands behind us and took us to another prison ship. They roped us together ard stood us in a line along the rail. They then started shooting us, one at a time.. "Using his sword, a Jap cut the rope to loose the first man In line. He was taken to the stern of the boat and shot In the back. He felMnto the water. "Meanwhile, I found the frayed end of a steelcable by feeling with my" fingers behind my back and rubbed the ropes across the sharp edges until . I got free." . , The sergeant exhibited scars to show ho whlsvarm had been to show how his aims had. been Makes Break ."I decided I'd. just as soon.be shot trying to get away as the ther way, so I made a break for it. "I ran to the front end of the ship and slipped. down. Into; the anchor hole. After a while. I heard shooting again, so I let myself down into the water. Rose swam the four miles back to land, where friendly guerillas cared for him and sev eral Americans who had made good in the first escape attempt. Urgently Heeded!
