Ted- row, fire chief of the Rogue Riv er 'National Forest service, re turned to Medford yesterday from Eugene where he spent the past two weeks attending a fire control training school at Mc Kenzie Bridge. On Guadalcanal Pvt. Fred Calven of Medford is now sta tioned at an army base on Guad alcanal, a news release from the base states. Pvt. Calven is an army cook and according to the release, his cooking rates "A" with his buddies. .. Corporal Home Cpl, Ralph C. Burgess, Jr., is In Medford to spend Thanksgiving with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Burgess, Sr., of 412 South Oak dale avenue. Cpl. Burgess recent ly graduated from gunnery school at Buckingham army air field in Florida and after his furlough here will report for further training at the air field at Shrevesport, La. '.-.' i Flu Fires The chemical truck was called to the residence of Mrs. J. W. Wakefield, 1003 West Tenth street, this morning to extinguish a flue fire, accord ing to a fire department report. Sunday night the chemical truck was summoned to the home of Ed Garner, 119 Portland avenue, to extinguish another flue fire, according to a second report. Lit tle damage was done in either blase. .)'. Sergeant Here Stg. Lewis W. Nutter, army signal corps, ar rived In Medford this morning from his post in Alaska for a 10-day furlough at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Nutter, 826 South Central ave-i nue. Prior to his Induction Into the army, Sgt. Nutter attended school and received diplomas from the National Radio Insti tute, Washington, D. C, and the American Telephone and Tele graph, New York City. HOWARD COGHILL PASSES SUDDENLY Howard C. Coshill. R5 a rest. dent of Medford for the last 22 years, passed away suddenly at his home, 401 South Newtown street, at 4:30 p. m. Saturday. Mr. Coghill was born in In diana.'October 10, 1879. Moving to Claremore, Okla., he was mar ried there In December 1810 to Nola Boswell, who survives. He also leaves two children, Lucille Wallace and Cecil H. Coghill of Medford, also three grandchildren. The family came to Oregon from Oklahoma and for ten years, resided at Lake view before coming to Medford. Funeral services will be held in the Conger-Morris chapel at 3 p. m., Wednesday with the Rev. C. W. Frost officiating. Mr, Cog hill was a member of the Apos tolic Faith mission here. , Interment will be made in Medford I.O.O.F. cemetery.
