OBESITY IS There is common notion that moderate obesity, superfluous flesh, overweight, corpulence or Indication of robust health. Probably the notion had its origin in feu dal days when the lords had plenty and their vassals barely enough to eat; and from the ob servation that (1. r Bredf emacla t 1 o n less of flesh, consumption or wasting occurs in the advanced ataires of numerous diseases. With one notable exception pulmonary tuberculosis even . 8 per cent excess weigm is re garded as unfavorable to health and longevity today. Statistics seem to show that moderate stoutness, up to B per cent over weight, is at least not detrimen tal to persons up to the age of thirty-five years. After the age of thirty-five years, however, any excess flesh is unfavorable to health, efficiency and longev ity. So there you are. folks. Why carry , around a handicap of slacker flesh when Jt isn't re quired by law? Most of the slacker flesh lum bering about the earth today is built out of the prodigious amounts of the delectable, cheap, plentiful, easy to eat carbohy drates in our modern, refined, denatured, .unbalanced Ameri can diet., Refined white flour and re fined white sugar and syrup and molasses yield more than half of the calories in the dally fqp d of the average person in America. Calories from refined white flour or refined white sugar are just as good as calories from any other food material.
