Howe of Trail announce the marriage of their daughter, Wanda, to Lt James F. Steacy, son of Mrs. E. Fredlani of Los Angeles nd James W. Steacy of Oak land, Calif. The ceremony was performed November 3 by the Rev. Louis C. Kirby at the First Methodist church here. Preceding the service Mrs. Ef fie Kurtz ring "O Promise Me" with Mrs. Eva Marsh as accom panist The bride's wedding gown was of the traditional white satin made princess style and with a full length veil. She carried a bouquet of white rosebuds and white bouvardia centered with a white orchid. Miss Patricia Wilkinson was maid of honor and bridesmaids, all cousins of the bride, were ' Miss Melva Cushman, Miss Marie Radsdale, Miss Fay Ash and Miss Ivorene Cushman. All the attendants wore taffeta frocks of pastel shades and car ried nosegays of harmonizing flowers. Little Claudia Ash was flower girl for the bride. The groom's' father acted as : best man for his son and ush ers, all uncles of the bride, were . Enrolls in College Miss Virginia Lovell Is now a student at Midland college, Kan sas City, Mo having started classes last Monday. She has en rolled in a course dealing with aeronautics and air travel. Miss Lovell Is the daughter of Mr , and Mrs. E. M. Lovell, 026 Ed ' wards street and is a graduate or Medford senior high school. Talent Resident Wed Last Month At Santa Barbara Miss Mabel Romlnger, daugh ter of B. L. Rominger of Talent and Technical Sgt. Paul L. Rog ers, son of S. E. Hunter of Half way, Ore., were married October 21 at Santa Barbara, Calif. The informal ceremony was perform ed by Major Harold E. Botte- mlller, army chaplain, in the Biltmore Hotel chapel. Following the nuptial rites a reception was held at the hotel and Sgt. Rogers and his bride cut the wedding cake. Twenty- four guests attended the cere mony and reception. Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Russell Earle attended the bride and groom. The bride is a graduate of Talent high school and formerly was employed at Camp White as a secretary in the. civilian per sonnel department. At present she is a stenographer in the of fice of the post surgeon of the Army Ground and service Forces Redistribution station at Santa Barbara. Sgt. Rogers enlisted in the quartermasters' corps In 1942 and was stationed at Camp White before being assigned to! the redistribution station. He is a graduate of the high school at Halfway and was attending Ore gon State college at the time of joining the service. Sgt. and Mrs. Rogers are re siding at 1809 Alameda Padre Sierra in Santa Barbara. Zonta Celebrates Silver Anniversary Of Founder s Day The silver anniversary of the founding of Zonta In Buffalo, New York, November 8, 1919, was celebrated by all cluBs of the organization during the week of November 5. ' Zonta, . a classified club for professional and executive busi ness women, was organized by a group of nearly 100 women. Nearly four months later, repre sentative of eight clubs met on November 8, 1919, and formed the first "confederation of Zon ta Clubs" as it was then called. Zonta "is a Sioux Indian name meaning trustworthy and honest. At present there are IBS clubs with 'members in several coun tries. A scholarship of $900.00 is awarded each year to a wo man for graduate study in en gineering, with special interest in aeronautics. Civic Music associa tion dinner at the Medford ho tel at 6:30 Monday evening had been received up to Friday eve ning, according to Sh Bullis, president of the association. Fa cilities have been arranged for a maximum of 129. Grants Pass is sending a dele-. gation to the dinner this year and will .- have a committee headed by Mrs. Herschell Obye and including Mrs. F. I. Bris tol, Mrs. Noble Stanton and others. Central Point will be represented by Mrs. Gladys Jewett, Miss Elizabeth Wilson and others, while Mrs. Chester Wendt will represent Jacksonville. The Ashland member ship committee' of 12 will attend the dinner headed by Mrs. Edith Stevens. Mrs. Lois Reed is as sisting Mrs. Stevens in the ar rangements. 9 Mrs. M. N. Hogan has acted as dinner chairman, in addition to her duties as a division chair man. Mrs. Paul Bulkln and Mrs. John Boyle are in charge of decorations, while Miss Mabel Nansen is working out a brief musical interlude with her high school a capeila choir. Mrs. Virginia Walt, home ec omlnlcs instructor at junior high, is supervising the serving of the dinner assisted by ten volunteer high school students, all of whom are members of the a capeila choir. The other ten members of the choir are serving on Miss Nansen's stud ent membership committee so liciting memberships from fel low students and adults. Mnry Cove was elected president, Ina Huson vice president; Florence Klatt, secretary-treasurer. Plans were made for the next meeting of the club which will be the annual dinner and party at the I.O.O.F. hall Dec. 14. The club voted to send gifts to the Odd Fellows home In Port land and Leah Ivie and Laura Wicker were appointed in charge of this project. Any member wishing to contribute gifts is to call Mrs. Ivie. A social hour followed the business session with Sara Red den serving els' entertainment chairman and Grace Pnnkey' as refreshment chairman. Sojourners' Club Dinner And Dance To Be November 18 Medford Sojourners club made plans for a dinner-dance at a meeting held Thursday at the Girls Community club. The event will be November 18 at Rogue River lodge, with dinner to be served at 9:30 o'clock, prer ceded by a cocktail hour. All the group are invited to attend and reservations are to be made with Mrs. Frank Humphrey, chairman of the committee. Mrs. George Rudolph was chairman of hostesses for the meeting Thursday,. with Mrs. M. Martin and Mrs. Walter Kendle assisting. Armistice day furnish ed the theme for appointments and the hostess table was cen tered with an arrangement of orchid chrysanthemums. Pinochle prizes were won bj Mrs. Donald Swecker and Mrs. Bruce Stewart and bridge prizes by Mrs. Frank Humphrey, Mrs. Phil Grady and Mrs. Julius Hale. Varied Program To Be Presented By Accordionists A varied program of accor dion concert numbers will be given this afternoon when Luigi Rangan and Don Bottari of Portland are presented at the Knights of Pythias hall by Mrs. Eve Prentice's accordion band. Virginia Manas And Lt. Wharton Wed Last Month Miss Virginia Manus, daugh ter of Joseph Manus, formerly of this city and now of Indian apolis, Ind., and Lieut Stuart Theodore Wharton, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Wharton, 1134 West Ninth street, were married October 28 at Indianapolis. , The service was read at the home of the Rev. Hanes and following the ceremony the bride and groom were honored guests at a wedding dinner giv en by the bride's family. Lt. and Mrs. Wharton then left for Mineral Wells, Texas, and will reside there at 400 N. W. Sev enth street, while the bride groom is stationed at Camp Wolters. Lt. Wharton graduated from the army's Infntry school at Ft. Benning, Ga., a few days prior to the wedding. Mrs. Wharton left Medford about a year ago and has been making her home in Indianapolis with her father. Both Lt. and Mrs. Wharton are graduates of . Medford senior high school. 1 Couple Honored On Anniversary Of Wedding Day In celebration of their 83th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Walters were hon ored at a surprise dinner party at their home, 3.6 Chestnut eve. The dinner was arranged by their grandchildren, Dan, Ray and Nadine Walters and twelve guests were present for the affair. The couple received many presents from relatives and friends to mark the occasion and an anniversary wedding cake was cut and served. Mr. and Mrs. Walters have lived here many years. Mrs. Wal ters came to the valley with her parents at the age of four years and Mr. Walters, a native of Helena, Montana, also came to the county at an early age. They have 30 grandchildren. Lady Lions Meet Thursday Night " At Coyle Home Mrs. C. L. Coyle, Mrs. Larry Neeley and Mrs. Morris Schino were hostesses for Lady Lions last week, entertaining Thursday evening at Mrs. Coyle's home on Park street. Mrs. Brunn is a daughter of the Very Rev. and Mrs. Herald Gardner of Salt Lake City and with her parents made her home in Medford before leaving for Utah about a year ago. The bridegroom is a Salt Lake City phy sician and the couple is residing in that city. Society Initiates Medford Student Miss Joyce Utz was initiated into Phi Chi Theta, national business women's honorary so ciety on the campus of the Uni versity of Oregon last Wednes day night. Miss Utz Is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn H. Utz, 301 Crater Lake avenue, and is an honor student at the university. Medlin Married Monday Miss Evelyn Nill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Nill, .-707 West Eleventh street, and Pvt. Curtis H. Medlin of Broken Arrow, Okla., were married Monday, November 6. The cere mony was performed by Justice William P. Tucker at his home. Pvt. Medlin has returned to his army duties at Ft. Riley, Kan., and Mrs. Medlin is remain ing in Medford with her parents. The Nills came here a few months ago from Broken Arrow, the two young people having been schoolmates in that town. Crater Lake Guild Program Includes Speakers, Music The Rev. Sam Cassells, turned missionary from Africa. spoke on "African Women" at the - meeting of Crater Lake Guild of the Presbyterian church held Monday evening in the church parlors. Mrs. Justin Smith spoke on measures on the election ballot and Miss Jean Farley sang three selections, ac companied by Mrs. Roberta Ward Bebb. Refreshments were served by Miss Vera Humphrey, Miss Jerry Kircher and Mrs. Harry Hansen. P.E.O. Chapters Will Entertain Vice-President Mrs. B. E. Whlsenand of Bend, Ore., will be in Medford Wednesday to visit the two Med ford chapters of the P.E.O. Sis terhood. Mrs. Whisenand is state vice-president "of the sisterhood and is also acting as organizer. The officer will meet first with Chapter AA. The meeting will be in the form of a luncheon at the home of Mrs. C. H. Paske, 1010 South Oakdale avenue at one o'clock. Mrs. E .B. DeVoa and Mrs. W. E. Hoppe will be assisting hostesses.
