Live, Magnetic Preacher of New York City In Spiritual Crusade Nightly 7:30 ( ST.T) irrh MINISTERS SLATE The Medford Ministerial as sociation is sponsoring ' the ap pearance of two leaders in the field of Christian education and missions for November 7. Dr. Clarence Benson, formerly of the education department of Moody Bible institute and di rector of the Scripture Press and now head of the Evangel ical Sunday School association, will conduct round-table discus sions and lecture periods throughout the day. The Rev. Sam Cassells, field representa tive of the Sudan Interior mis sion, will take part in a double- header service at 7:30 p. m. The Ministerial association said that Dr. Benson is one of America's outstanding leaders and authorities in the field of church school work. He is au thor of a nun.ber of books on the subject, the most popular being "The Surfday School in Child Study" and most recently "The History of Christian Edu cation. Esoeciallv capable in the field of Sunday school literature and curriculum, the association saia, he has pioneered in many new techniques and processes of edu cation. The ministers hope that a large delegation of Sunday school officers, teachers, pas tors and youth group leaders, to gether with parents and others interested in the moral and spiritual welfare of children and youth can hear Dr. Benson and take part in the discussions. Rev. Cassells represents the Sudan Interior mission, an ac tive force of some 500 mission aries and workers holding forth in Africa fiom Somaliland to Nigeria. This mission has been most active in Ethiopia, and their missionaries the last to leave and the first to return at Addis Abeba. Rev. Casscls himself is a dynamic speaker. SibJroa Scot IHanaV- A 1 Three Japanese fleets have been attacked by American forces In th Philippines in great showdown struggle that may decide length of war in the Pacific Apparently, surface ships battled between Formosa and Luzon while our aircraft lashed at enemy fleets in the Sulu and Sibuvan Seaa. 100-Foot Flagpole To Be Dedicated To Battleship Oregon Portland, Ore., Oct. 27 U.R A giant flagpole 100 feet high today stood on the spot to be dedicated Sunday to the mem ory of the historic battleship Oregon and the veterans of the Spanish war. The pole is a 110-foot Douglas fir, weighing about 2'. 4 tons. Nearby workmen moved Into place a four-ton Rocky butte stone on which the plaque and the figurehead of the Oregon will be mounted. The surround ing area has been landscaped for a perpetual park. The old battleship was a state shrine on the Portland water front until the early days of the present war, when federal of ficials asked that it be scrapped for the metal it contained. An Investigation was made several months ago into charges that the scrap had not been used in the war effort, when the hull was found moored in the Colum bia river. It was determined that some of the metal had been sold to government agencies, with a large amount remaining unused. Prospect Prospect, Oct. 27 Mr. and Mrs. David M. Fraedrick, Jr., received his call and left for his naval training base, Oct. 24 Mrs. Birdie Chancellor, who made her home with her daugh ter, Mrs. Iley Mays, was called to Omaha, Neb., by the serious illness of her son, Meredith Chancellor .whose death occur red before she arrived.
