Oct 19, 1944 MTOFORD MAIL TRTBTJNEmini Buy and Store Onions Now WFA Advice To Housewives Portland Remember last season when onions were hard to get in many parts of the coun try and the price fairly high? Well, now all housewives have a chance to insure that doesn't happen again, revealed C. R. Tulley, district representative, office of distribution, War Food Administration. What many homemakers are doing, according to Tulley, Is buying a sack or two of onions and storing them in their gar ages and basements for later use. The change from famine to feast is caused by a temporary surplus of Sweet Spanish onions in the nation and Oregon. The national onion crop is SO per cent greater than last year's crop. There are many more onions than can be properly stored in regular commercial facilities. To -help overcome this tre mendous surplus, the WFA des ignated onions as a Victory Food Selection during September and October, Tulley said. "It's to the advantflge of ev ery homemaker as well as a bit of patriotic cooperation to buy and home store onions now," said Tulley, "The price of on ions now makes them an attrac tive buy and they may well cost more later on." "Any family using onions to brlgntcn up their meals should have no difficulty in keeping them until they are used up. The main requirement for home storing onions Is to keep them In a cool, well ventilated place, but not cold enough to freeze Hl-Y OUTLINES FUTURE PLANS The Medford Senior Hl-Y club met last night In YMCA rooms with their advisor, J.
