SEVELT Washington, Oct. 19 (U.R) Secretary of Interior Harold L. Ickes, asserting that he has nev er seen a man "so reckless with the truth" as Gov. Thomas E. Dewey, today accused the Re publican nominee of "trying to win the presidency under false pretenses." Recently returned from a speaking tour through the west and midwest, Ickes told a press conference "there is a definite trend in the country toward Roosevelt." "The chocolate soldier from Albany, N. Y., must sense what is going to happen to him on Nov. 7," Ickes added. Dewey has become "quarrel ous and petulant," he said, and "no one is going to be elected on a sour note. He ought to drink buttermilk with his lunches." He accused Dewey of deliber ately misquoting him in his St. Louis speech in referring to the secretary's relations with . the war labor board during the coal strikes last year. "Mr. Dewey," he' said, "is evi dently trying to start a contro versy between me and the WLB." Ho explained that in a maga zine article he had referred to work stoppages and not to the WLB as "a black and stupid chapter in the history of the American home front."
