Newspaper Page TextLOCAL and Local Visitor L. V. Espey of Klamath Falls spent the week end in Medford visiting his wife and family, Mrs. L. V. Espey of 619 Park street. Building Permit John Nied ermeyer applied at the city in spector's office yesterday for a permit to construct a garage at 24-26 South Fir street at a stat ed cost of $3,000. Return Home Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Downs have returned to their home on 203 North Ivy street after spending two weeks in Astoria visiting Mrs. Downs' brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and "Mrs. Harold McAlister. Dance To Be Formal Host esses of the MarKade were re minded today by the director, Mrs. Ruth Boyd, that the dance planned for this evening will be a formal affair. The dance has been scheduled for 8 p. m. Move Here Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Frohreich and three chil dren have moved to Medford to make their home after residing for the past six years in Grants Pass. Mr. Frohreich has been en gaged in the poultry business. , Inducted Two former Med ford residents have been induct ed into the army according to word received here by selective service board No. 1, with which they were formerly registered. They are Jiro Shimoda who was inducted at Fort Hayes, Ohio, September 4, and Charles Glen Sanger at Portland, Ore., Sep tember 15. Church Meeting The first fall meeting of the official board of the First Methodist church will be held Thursday evening d 6;3Q o'clock in the social hall of the church. A potluck dinner will be served at that time to board members and their fam ilies. The official board is com posed of trustees, stewards, re tired ministers, and heads of de partments. Daughter Born Word has been received here of the birth of a daughter to Capt. and Mrs. P. F. Steere, former Medford residents. The baby, the second daughter of the Steeres has been named Leslie and was born Aug ust 29 at West Warwick, Rhode Island, and weighed five pounds. Capt. Steere is now stationed at Camp Lockett, having been transferred to California from Camp White. They also have one son. i Casad Promoted Mr. and Mrs. John W. Casad, Rt. 1, box 401, have received word that their son, John Casad, has been promoted to sergeant. Now in France, the sergeant has been overseas a year. He attended Medford high school before Join ing the army a year and one-half ago. The Casads have two other sons in the army, SSgt. Allen K. Casad, in Australia, overseas seven months, and Joe W. Casad, in training at Camp Roberts, Calif., for four months. , Visit Parents Pfc. John Jen sen plans to leave tomorrow for Camp Bowie, Tex., after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jens Jensen, 418 Park street. He is with the signal corps. Also here were Mrs. S. M. Bronson of Cas terville, Calif., daughter of the Jensens, and Mr. and Mrs. Nor-' man Moty and son, Kenneth, of Klamath Falls, son-in-law and daughter of the Jensens, the Moty's spending Sunday In the city. Mrs. Bronson's husband is overseas with the 91st Infantry Division. Transferred Lt. Aida Ingra ham announces the transfer of Sgt. Henry Tarbell to the Port land office. Taking his place is Cpl. Leora Rose, who will assist Lt. Ingraham with recruitment of women for the WAC. Cpl. Rose enlisted in the women's army corps in Los Angeles, on Sept. 14, 1943, and took basic training at Fort Des Moines, la. She was stationed at Fort Stev ens, Oregon, as chief telephone operator until transferred to re cruiting duty in the Oregon dis trict in August. The army re cruiting office is in the federal building in Medford, the hours are 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. daily and it is open until 8 p.m. on Tues day and Friday nights. Til NO Do yog hava poor drgestion? Club to Meet A talk on "Landscaping" will be given by Mr. Palmerton of Rogue River at the meeting of the Jackson ville Garden club which will be held at the home of Mrs. Jessie Hamlin tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Assisting hostesses will be the Mesdames Myrtle Arnold and Helen Reed. Back to Medford Mrs. A. Evan Reames has returned to her home in the Vawter apart ments after spending the sum mer months in Tacoma, Wash. She visited her mother, Mrs. E. J. Lanning, and her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Reames and grandson. Alfred Evan. Mrs. Reames also spent a short time at Carmel, Calif. At Home Visiting this week at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Cobleigh of Phoenix, are Donald Dale Cob leigh, ART 2c, United States navy, and Miss Lola June Cob leigh of Alemeda, Calif. This is the first leave In a year for the navy man, who recently com pleted a course in radio and radar at - Corpus Christi, Tex., and will report to a California station for assignment after leav ing home. May Take Coupons Begin ning September 22, gasoline fill ing stations may again accept off-highway "R" coupons, OPA announced today. The ban on their acceptance by filling sta tions has been in effect since April 1 in an effort to reduce illegal use. The "R" coupons are now serially numbered so cou pons diverted to illegal use can be traced directly back to the persons who received them, OPA states.
