Teachers Meeting Elemen tary teachers of Medford pub lic schools will meet at junior high school tomorrow at 9 a.m. to be followed by meetings at the various schools with their principals, E. H. Hedrick, city school superintendent, reminded the instructors today. Mrs. Reed fills the vacancy left by Mrs. Evelyn Wamburg who has moved to San Francisco to re side. Visits Uncle Neilan Abbott, seaman first class, USN, visited his uncle, Grant H. Nelson, route 2, recently for several days. He Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Abbott, Klamath Falls, and has reported back to Bremerton after a 21 day furlough. He was 21 months in the South Pacific rarfront on active duty and par ticipated in over seven major engagements. Returns Home Mrs. N. S. Oatman has returned to her home at 516 South Grape street after spending the past five weeks in Portland where she was called by the serious illness of her grandson, Dickie Nolan. He is improving in a Portland hospital where he has been given medical treatment for spinal meningitis and is receiving pen icillin for the disease. Heater Backfires A gas hot water heater in a residence at 324 South Central avenue back fired last night about 6:33 o'clock but no damage was reported ac cording to the city fire depart ment. Owner of the house is Dale Franklin. Two Fight Glen Jones, 32, and L. N. Sherman, 54, who ap peared in city police court this morning on a charge of disorder liness and fighting, were pick ed up last night on South River side avenue. Jones was fined $10 and Sherman paid a' fine of $5. Boys Meet Two Jackson county boys, Dick Morgan and R. Dusenbury, who are both in the South Pacific, met recently overseas according to word re ceived here by friends. Morgan is with a fighter squadron and Dusenbury is a member of the former local National Guard unit. Leaves Cpl. Robert Yocum left Wednesday morning for Tampa. Fla., after spending five days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Yocom, route 4. Cpl. Yocom came from Las Vegas, Nev., where he graduated from flexible gunnery school at the army air field there the last of July. Society to Meet Epsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, honor society for women In the teaching profession, will have its first meeting of the fall sea son tomorrow afternoon at the Girls' Community club at 2 o'clock. Miss Delie Whisenant, Medford teacher, is president of the society. Receives Wings John C. Pinkham, 21, son of Mrs. Alice M. Pinkham, box 223, Central Point.has received his silver pilot's wings at La Junta Army Air Field, Colo. He was graduat ed as a flight officer after com pleting flight training as an avia tion cadet. UTTER SHORTAGE DUE TO CONTINUE Washington, Sept. 15 (U.R war coci Aaminisirauon om- cials said today the current butter shortage probably will continue for the rest of the year and mey become even more acute within the next few weeks. They reported that butter production during the first elgni months of 1944 dropped 12 per cent below last year's output. Production is seasonally at its lowest point in the fall and larger supplies are not expected to move into civilian channels for some weeks after It begins a gradual rise in November. In addition, cold storage stocks of butter are now only about half the size they were a year ago. Food officials are consider ing the advisability of increas ing the ration point value of butter from 16 to 20 red stamps. WHITTLE, ASHLAND RESIDENT TAKEN BY DEATH Floyd Fountain Whittle. 69. resident of Ashland for the past 35 years, died at the family home, 426 "B" street, last niiht after havln? been in failing health for the past four years. Funeral services will be Mondav at 10:30 a. m., and the body will then be cremated. Mr. Whittle had been proml- nal circes of the valley until noor health forced his retire ment. During his first few years in Ashland he was with the Mitchell and Whittle clothing store and in 1919 founded the Whittle Transfer company, still m operation. He was a member 0f au Masonic orders, a past potentate of Hillah Temple of the Shrine, memtier 01 me east ern Star and of Elks Lodge No. 944. He was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church.
