Haines of Ashland returned to her home last weekend after visiting her daughter, Mrs. Alpha Parks of Central Point, who has been ill. To Repair Roof Mrs. Eva M. Low of 1020 Queen Anne avenue applied at the city inspector's office yesterday for a permit to repair the roof of her residence at a stated cost of $70. Drunks Fined Earl Wilms, 40, and William Campbell, 39, both charged with drunkenness, were fined $10 in city police court this morning. Posting $10 on a charge of disorderly con duct was Harold Martin, 41. Minor Accident Mrs. C. E. Ramsey of Route 1 and Mrs. Karl L. Janouqh of 1202 East Main street drove cars involved in a slight mishap on the Pacific highway a half mile south of Wedford Tuesday afternoon, ac cording to a report on file today. Kent Home Johnny H. Kent, aviation radioman second class. Is home for a brief visit with his mother in Butte Falls. Upon re turning to his base on the Mexi can border, Kent will take final examinations and will then re port for aviation cadet's training ... Examiner Coming A travel ing examiners of operators and chauffeurs will be in the K. P. hall next Friday and Saturday between the hours of 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. Persons wishing permits or licenses to drive cars are ask ed to contact the examiner dur ing those honrs. In England Lt. Lawrence A. Fick, recently arrived at an air service command station in Eng land and has completed the orientation course designed to bridge the gap between training in the states and combat soldier ing, according to a release from the station. Lt. Fick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Fick of Jack sonville was enrolled at Oregon State college at the time of enter ing the army air forces. Holbrook Home Cpl. War ren Holbrook is home on fur lough and is spending a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Holbrook, 119 Crater Lake avenue. Cpl. Holbrook just com pleted his gunnery course at La redo army air field in Texas and was promoted to the grade of corporal at that time. Upon leaving Medford he will report tc Lincoln, Neb., for advanced training as a member of a com bat crew. Elliott Home Don J. Elliott, carpenter's mate second class in the navy's ship repair unit, is home after having completed his "boot" training at Farragut, Ida., and is visiting his wife and chil dren, Douglas and Bobbie, at the family home on Spring street. Elliott, a graduate of Medford high school, was employed by the Padgham planing mill before going into the navy. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Elliott, Sr., live on Howard avenue. Promoted Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hollenbeck, 722 North River side avenue, have received word that their youngest son, Robert, has been advanced from corpor al to sergeant in the AAF some where in France. Sgt. Hollen beck is attached to the Ninth Air Force. The Hollenbecks have two other sons in the service, both in the Pacific. First Lt. Williard is in the army quarter-1 master corps and 1st. Lt. Clyde is first pilot of a marine corps bomber. Strang Wounded Pfc. David C. Strang of the marine corps suffered wounds during the early days of the battle of Saipan, ac cording to information received ! by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. i Robert Strang, former Medford residents now living In Reno. Pfc. Strang had been overseas since January and according to Information received by his par ents, suffered a shrapnel wound in the left hand early in the' Saipan campaign. He is a grand-' son of Mrs. Charles Strang and a nephew of Virgil, Fred and j Herbert Strang, all of this city. Moore, 33, of Seattle was cited by state police yesterday to ap pear in Justice of the peace court at 2 p. m. Aug. 9 on a charge of driving a truck with a com bination overload of 1,000 pounds. Aerie To Meet Crater Lake Aerie No. 2093 and Auxiliary will meet in the hall, 219 West Main street, tomorrow at 8 p.m. Program plans for the remainder of the year will be discussed, but no initiation will be held. A dance will conclude the evening, officers state. Miss Farrell Returns Marian Farrell, home demonstration agent for Jackson county, has returned to Medford from Cor vallis, where she attended the summer session of Oregon State college. Virginia Waite acted as agent in her absence. WAC Here Sgt. Elizabeth J. Miller of the Women's Army Corps, stationed at the Santa Ana, Calif., air base, arrived in Medford Sunday to visit her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Jacobs, 35 Myrtle street. Last night Sgt. Miller went to Port land for a brief visit with friends and will return to Medford over the week-end. Davis Returns George Davis arrived in Medford this morning from Portland and will again be on the staff of. the Perl Funeral home here. Mrs. Davis and their three sons will arrive later. Davis left Medford about a year ago after having been with the Perl establishment here for a number ol years. Promoted Thomas D. Shep- ard was promoted to the petty officer rate of electrician's mate third class during recent gradu ation ceremonies at the naval training school on the Univer sity of Minnesota carhpus, ac cording to a news release from the school. Mrs. Shepard makes her home at 34 Quince street. Board to Meet Mrs. Karl Brockhaus, president of the Council of Church Women, has called a meeting ot the board of directors for Friday of this week. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p. m. at the Presbyterian church parlors. Officers of the local council, chairmen of standing committees and two representa tives from each church affiliated with the council will be present. Rease Braley re turned Monday to their home at 245 Valley View Drive from a vacation spent in San Francisco and Carmel, Calif.
