Pick el, now in Medford on leave, will report next in New Lon don, Conn., to the naval base there. Pickel recently gradu ated from the Bellevue Radio Material school, Washington, D. C, and was promoted to ra dio technician second class. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Pickel, 823 Taylor street. ... Brays Return Dr. and Mrs. J. P. Bray of Lozier Lane re turned last night from Portland, where they attended the annual conference of Methodist Churches of Oregon. They were accompanied home by Chaplain and Mrs. William Bray, their son and daughter-in-law, who continued on to their home in Salina, Kans. While visiting here, Chaplain Bray received his orders to report to a school in Texas for special training for overseas service in the army. ... Alternaiei Announced C. C. Clemens, Medford, and Earl T. Newbry, Ashland, are to serve as alternates on the control com mittee for winter pears an nounced yesterday by the fruit and vegetable division of the War Food administration. Clem ens will serve as alternate to Chester Fitch, Medford grower member on the committee, and Newbry as alternate to S. M. Tuttle, handler member named to the committee. ... Graduates Ernie Gaines, ; aviation machinist's mate 3rd ' class, of Medford, graduated ! last week from aerial gunners ' school at the U. S. Naval Air Gunners school in Jacksonville, Fla. Mechanic Gains previously completed a course in aviation machlnst's school in Chicago, 111. He received honor grades in both of these schools and will now go to a Naval Air Opera tional Training Command sta tion and take mechanics and gunnery after which he will be a naval aircrewman. The twenty-year Old petty officer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Gains of 119 Portland Ave. His wife, Mrs. Ernie Gains, is living at . 212 Grape St. Plan Picnic A picnic for servicemen to be held Sunday at Makee bridge is being planned by Sgt. John Crow and Pvt. Harold Drosethes of the WPRC and Mrs. Ruth Boyd, di rector of the MarKade. Assist ing with plans are Miss Jean TJoelker and Mrs. Frances Dal-1 laire of the Volunteer Service corps and young women of the corps able to attend are asked to call Mrs. Dallaire, 2526. Hostesses will be asked to take potato salad and cakes and the remainder of the picnic lunch will be furnished by men of the WPRC. The latter will also supply recreation equipment, including a field organ for , group singing. Groups attend ing the picnic will meet at the MarKade at 1 D. m.. Kensey, a student of the Navy V-12, has arrived home on a short leave from Willamette u n i v e r s ity where he has been in training. After his leave is up Kensey will go to the University of Cal ifornia where he has been as signed to N.R.O.T.C. Kensey en listed in Januaryof 1942 and has spent 14. months in the South West Pacific. His Sister Fern, is at Hunter college, New York, taking training in the Waves. In New Guinea Cpl. Philip B. Lowry has-arrived in New Guinea, a letter received yes terday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert B. Lowry, Bear Creek Orchards, states. Cpl. Lowry is with the headquarters com pany classification and reas signment unit of the fifth army supply depot. Cpl. For a few days it was displayed at the grade school and then removed to E. P. Wene's home. The next morn ing the reptile was found bask ing in Folowell's back yard. Taking the snake far down the tracks, he released it, hoping for the best, but in a few days was greeted by a hissing sound near his house the same snake. Hirschey sued for $10,000 in his aliena tions of affections suit against Carl C. Baer, who allegedly stole the former Mrs. Hirschey's heart.
