T should think you would keep silent about your filthy habit of not brushing your teeth. ( D.D.S.) It is apparent that you have never had to keep a family of children reasonably clean. If .you had, you would know that a bath tub, and not a shower bath, Is indispensable or at least It Is a great convenience for the mother of children xoo young to take shower baths. (Mrs. D.L.R.) It seems a shame to tell, but when they catch me at it the least I can do is maKe a clean breast of it, so I confess I do bathe occasionally. And a few years ' ago I even brushed my teeth for sixty consecutive days, carefully employing the tech nic, brush and dentifrice my dentist described. I did so for the same reason that I would take castor oil if my doctor pre scribed it at least for once. I do not believe or teach that there is any particular harm in taking a wet wash in a tub whenever you wish, nor do I think the practice of brushing the teeth does the teeth or the health any harm. My teaching is simply that bathing is a matter of personal Inclination and has little to do with health or hygiene, and dit to for brushing the teeth that rite has nothing whatever to do with the soundness of the teeth or with mouth or general health nd hygiene. t t t i 1 WW IU 1,1 1 9. Come to think of it, bath ing a helpless invalid in a shower stall would be Inconve nient, too. The basin for bathing chil dren up to above five years of age should be so built that mother or nurse can sit as though working at a desk while bathing the child. It is unrea sonably hard for her to be com pelled to bend over an ordinary knee-high tub when bathing a young child. Still it is difficult to under stand why a child over five or six years of age or any able- bodied adult should ever prefer a tub for bathing or why any one planning a home should in stall a bath tub except as a kind of reserve equipment In case an invalid be unable to take a shower. They cling to the unattractive tub, It seems, just because it is an old English custom. I suspect the English do most of their bathing in books. INT R.ICATE CCftrcxcriOffS T Washington, June 20 (U.R) The first casualties to return to the Uinted States from Nor mandy are expected to arrive by plane within the next few days, it was learned today. i Keports from London last night said some patients already had been flown from Britain, though none was reported in this country up to mid-afternoon. ' Only special cases will be flown home and the number will not be large, it was said. The first casualties to arrive by hos pital ship are not expected until late next month. Heiress Charges . Fraud in Divorce Reno, Nev., June 20 (U.R) Attorneys for Doris Duke Crom well charged today that a New Jersey chancery decision nulli fying in that state her Nevada divorce from James H. R. Crom well was induced by gross fraud," and filed notice of mo tion to amend the divorce pro ceedings to include both the record of the New Jersey hear ing and further evidence in sup port of the legality of her de cree. The New Jersey decision. handed down May 10, ruled that Mrs. Cromwell's divorce was invalid in New Jersey be cause her Nevada residence had been falsely claimed. She did not defend that action. MRS. CARVER'S SISTER SUCCUMBS IN ILLINOIS Mrs. Hal Carver of Medford has received word of the death in Belvidere, 111., of her sister, Mrs. Allen Harwood, former resident of tnis city. Mrs. Har wood, the former Beulah weir, made her home here with the Carvers for two years and has many friends in the valley. She is the daughter of Mrs. Louis Schnelle of Belvidere, 111. Mrs. Harwood was born in Belvidere, May 9, 1913, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Weir. In addition to her mother Mrs, Harwood leaves a brother in England Sgt. Arthur Weir; four sisturs, Mrs Carl Bliese of Rock- ford, Miss Marie Pulse of Chi cago, Miss Edna Weir of Bel videre, and Mrs. Carver of this city who is in the east for the funeral. NEW AUTO PURCHASES TO BE MADE HARDER ' Washington, June 20 (U.R) The office of Price Administra tion today tightened require ments for new automobile pur chase certificates to conserve the dwindling new car stockpile for tht most essential users. Effective Friday, OPA said, a person can get a certificate only if he can show that' he needs a car principally for at least one of the purposes on the eligibility list.
