Herring enlisted In the navy Seabees August 19, through the Medford recruiting station, and was sent to special school where he learned the handling of dyna mite, land torpedoes, booby traps and general demolition work. At present be Is stationed at Gulf port, La. Webster Promoted Mr. and tnd Mrs. Arthur H. Webster of Central Point have received word that their son, Lome, was recently promoted to the rank of flying officer In the Royal Canadian Air Force. Webster Is a reconnaissance pilot flying with the coastal command in England. A flying officer In the Canadian Force ranks with a first lieutenant In the American army. He enlisted two years ago. The Websters are Canadians, formerly living at Grand Forks, B. The child was born Sept. 22, weighed seven pounds and 12 ounces and has been named James Anolph. Both Mr. and Mrs. Binder were former residents of Medford, later mov ing to Honolulu. They returned to the states In April. Mrs. Bind' er will be remembered as the former Aline Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Fowler, former Medford residents now living In Pomona. OJ.R) Mrs. Mae Belle Hagen, wealthy divorcee from Miami, Fla., com plained to police bunco squad detectives today that a man pos ing as a retired Milwaukee banker had absconded with 1 28, 000 worth of her Jewels. The man, giving his name as Harold Carl Ingels, met her at a Chicago railroad station Dec. 5, accompanied her to Holly wood, married her here Dec. 11 and promised to buy her a $135, 000 Bel-Air estate. He asked her to withdraw her Jewelry from a bank strongbox tor a honeymoon trip east be cause he wanted her to "look nice" among his wealthy friends, Mrs. Hagen said. When she did, she continued, the man disap peared with her diamond ring, bracelets and watch. The district attorney's office Issued a complaint against In gels. DOG LICENSE CUT T Licenses for dogs will be $1- each this coming year instead of $1.50, according to an announce ment from the county court. De cision to lower the license fee was made at a court meeting yesterday in view of the fact that a reserve fund is now suf ficiently large to take care of expenditures. The fund Is used to cover the cost of depredations by dogs, such as the killing of sheep. The new license fee becomes effective Jan. 1 and after Mar. 1 the fee will be $2, as a pen alty for late application. Lt. Bernard Gildea Killed in England Word has been received here of the death of Lt. Bernard Gildea who was killed in an air plane crash Nov. 30 near Beak- shlor, England. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gildea of Long Beach, - Calif., and a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. George Holzgang of this city. He also attended school In Medford. When he got there he stopped, blinked his eyes and yelled: "Heyl I used to sleep over there."
