The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H..S. Chirgwin of Route 2, Med ford, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Thomas of Salem. - The beautiful ring ceremony of the Methodist church was per formed at 4:30 o'clock in' the afternoon by Dr. Louis Kirby in a setting of tall baskets of white flowers, ferns and lighted tapers. The service opened with, two solos by Miss Mary Anne Gates, "O Promise Me" and "It Is for You," with Doris Condit Lantz i IL. 1 Ik. nFHan wn I I J L 1 .1 W...W . on the arm of her father, who gave her in marriage, and to the music of the Lohengrin wedding march. Her gown was of white satin fashioned with full length train and veil and fitted bodice. Seed oearls trimmed the bodice neckline and the coronet which held the veil. The bridal bouquet was of white chrysanthemums centered with a violet tinted orchid. Attending Miss Chirgwin was Mrs. Philip Whitaker in a fldor length gown of dusty pink. She carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations and wore a headpiece of the same flowers The groom was attended by Sgt. Philip Whitaker and ushers 4 were Allan Perry and David 1 Chirgwin. Mrs. Chirgwin chose for . her daughter s wedding a pastel aqua dress with, black hat and black accessories worn with a gar denia corsage. Mrs. Thomas wore an orchid gown with black accessories' and her corsage was also of gardenias. ' A reception followed at the home' of Dr. and Mrs. A. R. Hedges, 836 East Main St., where about 43 friends and relatives 'gathered to greet the bride and groom. Mrs. A. - T. Lathrop poured, presiding at. a table beautifully appointed and cen tered with an arrangement of pink and white snapdragons. The wedding cake was cut first by the bride and groom with Mrs. Evelyn Akers, sister' of the .groom, finishing the cutting. As insisting about the rooms were Mrs. Ed Leach, Mrs.. C. H- Beery, Mrs. Bernice Kunzman. and Mrs. Jimmy Hall. ' Mr. and Mrs. Thomas left Sun day evening for a brief wedding trip south and .will return to Medford Christmas Eve to spend several days with Mrs. Thomas' parents and brother. They will be at home after. Jan.. 1 at 966 Park St., Lebanon, Ore., where Mr. Thomas is a member of the law firm of Morley and Thomas. Mrs. Thomas is . well known In the valley, having been born in Medford and resided here all her' life. She graduated from Medford senior high school and then from Willamette Univer sity at Salem and since that time has been 'employed in the city library at 'Salem.- Mr. Thomas attended the Salem schools and eraduated from Willamette Uni versity and Willamette Law School. Both are members of Alpha Kappa Nu, national schol astic honor society, and Mrs. Thomas in her senior year at the university was chosen . Senior French Scholar. The groom is also a member of Delta Theta Phi, legal fraternity, of Blue Key, men's honor group, and Tau Kappa Alpha, speech fra ternity. Women's Relief Corps ; Has Yuletide Party Members of Chester A. Arthur corps, Women's Relief Corps, held the yearly Christmas party following the regular meeting at the armory. Thomas Estes Weds Miss Ruth Woodson In Balboa, Panama Mr. and Mrs. Rankin Estes, 515 Pennsylvania Ave., have re ceived word of the marriage of their son, Thomas ' J. ' Estes, radioman with the navy and stationed near Balboa in the Panama Canal Zone. His bride is the former Ruth" Woodson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Woodson of Cottage Grove. The marriage took place Nov. 12 -at' the West Bank navy chapel In Balboa and was per formed by Chaplain Bernard C. Hanna. Miss Woodson 'wore a gown of ivory faille taffeta- for her wedding and was given in marriage by Lt. Cmdr. E. w. Dannals. She was attended by Mrs. Margaret Jamieson of Cri- sobal and Paul O.. McGowan, United States navy,' was best man for Mr. Estes. Mr. and Mrs. Estes made a wedding trip to LaVenta. The groom is well known in Medford. He attended St. Mary's Academy here as a boy and graduated from Medford senior high school. Prior to en listing in the navy two years ago he was employed by the Standard stations here. Colony Club Scene Of Cocktail Party Yesterday Evening One of the week's holiday parties ' was that given yester day evening by Mr. and Mrs. George M. Roberts and their two daughters, Mrs. George Ras mussen and Mrs. Allyn Monroe. The affair was a cocktail and , supper party at the Colony club. ! Southwick. 915 West Tenth St. Rotary Members Entertain Wives , For Yule Party Medford Rotarlans entertained their wives Tuesday with the annual Christmas party, a lunch eon at- Ehrheart's- cafe, on East Main' St. Christmas music was furnished by "the high school string quartet, composed of Mary Bruce Crane, Alice Brill, Char lotte Wing and Verlyn Thomas, and the girls' sextette, composed of June Williams, Joyce Bate- man, Georgle ' Bateman, Doris Knutsen, LaRene Thompson and Barbara Sands. ' Feature of the. luncheon was the Christmas address, delivered by the Rev. Karl W. Brockhaus of Zion English Lutheran church. Lee Bishop was chairman In charge of the program About 150 Rotarians and their wives were in attendance. Ensign and Mrs. Manke Visit Relatives Here . Ensign and Mrs. Claude Manke and small daughter left Medford Thursday night after a week's visit here with the ensign's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Manke, route 1. Ensign Manke, who re turned to this country a few months ago after duty in the south Pacific, has been stationed at Pacific Beach in Washington. He now reports to San Francisco. Hansen, 52 Ross Court, have an nounced the engagement of their daughter, Helen Marie, to Sgt. Weldon M. Schnell, whose par ents are Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Schnell of Millersburg, Ohio. The announcement was made at a dinner at the Presbyterian church, of which the Rev. Han sen is pastor, on Sunday, Dec. 12. No date has been set for the wed ding. - Sgt. Schnell, who has been stationed at Bakersfield, Calif., was In Medford at the time the engagement was made known. He left the following day for an undisclosed destination, a wea ther station of the army air force in the far north. -Miss Hansen is on the recrea tion staff of the West Main street USO. 4 ' Army Auxiliary Production Unit Wraps 1S00 Gifts To meet an emergency appeal, the production unit of the Camp White Red Cross auxiliary spent ine regular Wednesday sewing meeting at the Outpost wrapping 15U0 guts for patients at the Sta tion Hospital. The appeal was made by Mrs. Leonard Careen- ter, vice-chairman of the Jackson county committee of the Siskiyou Camp and Hospital Council, and Mrs. Li. e. Jahns, army auxiliary chairman of hospital recreation. Seventeen members attended. . . . ' . . Lt; Kelly In Medford For Holiday Vacation ' . Lt. Marjorie Kelly of the Wom en's Army Corps Is in Medford to spend the holidays with her mother, Mrs. E. .E. Kelly, 911 Queen Anne avenue. Lt. Kelly made the trip from Eglin Field Fla., where she is stationed, by plane and bus. She will leave the first of the week for the return trip. Mrs. Kelly's daughter-in-law. Mrs. Edward C. Kelly, left Wednesday night for Detroit, Mich., to visit her husband, Capt. Kelly. FROM THE Myers-Iverson Nuptials Held , In Minnesota Details of the wedding of Miss Frances Myers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Myers, 17 Ross Court, to Capt. Leigh R. Iverson, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Iverson of Houston, Minn., have been re ceived In Medford. The nuptials took place Sunday, Dec. 12, in Houston, at the Lutheran church. the single ring service being read by the Rev. A. W. Nelson. Miss Myers' wedding gown was of Jersey and net fashioned with a full skirt and her veil was fingertip length and held with a tiara of orange blossoms. She carried a white prayerbook with' an orchid. Mrs. Paul G. Iverson, sister-in-law of the groom, was bridesmaid. She was gowned in blue brocaded satin and carried a colonial bouquet of roses and sweetpeas. Carl Iverson of LaCrosse, Minn,, was best man for the groom and ushers were Paul Iverson and Anton Findreng. A reception was held at the home of the groom's parents for about 40 guests. The serving woie was presided over by. Mrs. an Iverson of LaCrosse and Miss Gunda Iverson of Rush ford. The bride Is a graduate of tne senior high school here and of Pasadena Junior college In uaiuornia. Capt. Iverson grad uated from the Houston high school and from St. Olaf college, Northfield, Minn. He has been in the army since March of 1941 and is now stationed at Camp iaau-, ure., wnere ne IS serv ing in the quartermaster's com pany of the 91st Infantry, Di vision. Following the ceremony Cant and Mrs. Iverson returned to the west coast and are making their nome at 173 South Cottage St., oaiem. SCU Wives Club Christmas Parly Is Held At Camp The SCU Officers' Wives club held a Christmas party at the officers' club rooms at Camp White Thursday, Dec. 16. Fifty members and guests gathered to enjoy the party. Luncheon was served In the mess hall by the WAC sergeant. The club was beautifully decor ated, the decorations including ah attractive Christmas tree on which there was a gift for every one present. Entertainment was furnished by a group of young accordion players, pupils of Mrs. ' Eve Prentice. Bridge and bingo fol lowed, with prizes being award ed for high and -low scores; ,. 'CHMSTMAS JV.& M WESTERN THRIFT Scheff el-Edmonds Wedding Is Held In Ashland Home Announcement was made this week of the wedding last Sun day, December 19,-of Miss Dee Scheffel of Medford and Lawrence E. Edmonds of Ash land. The service took place at four o clock in the afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leever, 1155 Fern St., Ashland and was read by the Rev. A. H. MacDonnell, rector of the Ash land Episcopal church. The fireplace of the Leever home, which had been arranged with bouquets of white chrysan themums and greens, formed a background for the bridal party. Miss Scheffel's dress was of grey and she wore a purple orchid corsage. . Following the ceremony wed ding refreshments were served from a table arranged with white carnations and crystal candelabra. Mrs. William H Lydiard poured and Mrs. Frank Rogers, sister of the bride, served. . Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds will make their home at R. 1, Box 212, Ashland. Mr. Edmonds is engaged in the lumber business In the valley with headquarters in Ashland. ' . Rector and Wife Hold Open House The Rev. and Mrs. George R. Turney held open house for members and friends of St. Mark's Episcopal church, of which the Rev. Turney is rector, last Sunday afternoon at' the rectory, 203 North Oakdale Ave. About 70 persons, include ing both the military and towns people, called during the after noon. The Rev. and Mrs. Turney plan to make the open house an annual part of the Christmas holiday program of the church, . Cocktail Party At Salade Home Is Large Affair ' Mrs. Lillian Salade was hos tess for a large cocktail party Sunday afternoon at her home near Central Point. The affair honored Mrs. Salade's sister, Mrs. Marjorie Pitts, and her daughter, Mrs. William Donker, both former residents now mak ing their home in River Forest, a suburb of Chicago, and in the valley for a stay at the Salade home. The party was timed to coincldd with the return of students from the University of Oregon who are friends of Mrs. Donker. The guest list of 69 included both the military and towns people. Children Present Holiday Program For Chapter Meet Children of members of chap ter AA, P.E.O., were featured on the program of the chapter holiday party Wednesday after noon at the home of Mrs. V. J. Robinson, 31 Geneva St. Betty Work read the "Story of the Christmas Song," Susan Drum- mond gave a selection from the "Nutcracker Suite' on the piano and accompanied her small brother, David, when he sang a carol. Little Brenda Bengtson described her. Christ mas tree and Beverly .Work played a group of folk songs, Christmas gifts -were ex changed and tea served from a table arranged with the tradi tional Christmas decorations and presided over by Mrs. John Moffat. Mrs. H. L, Brown as sisted Mrs. Robinson. Christmas Party Held By Lodge A Christmas party and social hour was enjoyed by members of the Rebekas lodge at the meet InirMonday night. The affair was In charge of the F. L. club, with Mrs. Viola Aldredge as chair man. Entertainment was furnish ed by the Rebekah Trio, com posed of Mrs. Ina Huson, Mrs, Ethel Weed and Mrs. Leah Ivle. who sang. One of their numbers was "Those Seabees" which was composed by Milton Harvey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Harvey of Medford. Mr. Harvey is a member of one of the Seabee units.
