Miracle of plastic surgery are taking place in this remote English village under the di rection of New Zealander, Dr. Archibald H. Mclndoe, who spent 10 years studying at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn More than 7,000 operations have been performed since the hos pital wa opened four years ago. Americans, through the British War Relief society, have iust contributed $120,000 to build a new operating clinic. At the moment operations are carried out la the draughty children's ward. Most of the patient here are men who've looked in the glass and said, "I'll never be able to work again or marry. I won't even be able to face other peo ple." ' Yet. after one or two opera tions they are amazed to find that they have enough confi dence to go, always with an other patient, to a factory, where they work in pairs. Some, awaiting further surgery, may have wire cages on the lower half of their faces In stead of Jaw. They may be facing 28 more operations ex tending over two years. Yet many nave been offered post war Jobs by the factory man agement. I fumbled for word when I taw the bandaged face of ah American Fortress pilot, but he was cheerful.
