There will be initiation and a report by the housing committee. The evening will close with a dance. Loop Leaves Gaylord Lee Loop has returned to his duties at Camp Parks, Calif., after 10-day visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Loop, 415 South Plum street. Loop, petty officer second class, has been in the Seabees since August. . Jones Hems Home on leave from Farragut. Ida., is Bob Jones, seaman second class, Rt. 4, Medford. He is visiting his mother, Mrs. Percy Jones, other relatives and friends. Jones enlisted Oct. 6 through the local navy recruiting office in charge of H. W. Crain. i e To Have Party Evans Valley Extension unit will hold the an nual Christmas party tomorrow, Dec. 15, at the home of Doris Lane. Covered dish luncheon will be served at noon and each member is asked to bring a gift for exchange. All the women of the community are invited to attend. On Honor Roll Cadet Har ris B. Janes, who is a student at Indiana university under the N army specialized training pro V gram, was on the scholastic honor roll for the term Just closed according to a news re lease from the school. Cadet Janes Is the son of Mrs. H. B. Janes, 1827 Capital avenue. e To Make Wreaths Christmas decorations and wreaths for the Camp White Station hospital will be made at .he meeting of the Jacksonville Garden club to be held Thursday, Dec. 16, at the home of Mrs. Anna Coleman. Those attending are asked to bring evergreens, berrtes, rib bon, wire or other material to be used in the work. Kyker Promoted Promotion of Edward L. Kyker from prt vate first class to technician fifth grade has been announced at Ft. Knox, Ky., according to a news release from the fort. Cpl. Kyker is assigned to a de monstration regiment of the ar mored school headquarters at Ft. Knox. He is the son of Mrs. Vivian Kyker and has been in the army nearly two years. Examiner Coming A travel ing examiner of operators and chauffeurs will be in Medford Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17 and 18, and will be on duty at the K. of P. hall between the hours of 0 a. rn. and 5 p. m. each day according to an an nouncement from the office of the 'secretary of state in Salem Anyone wishing a permit or license to drive may contact the examiner during those hours. Plan Party The annual Christmas dinner of the Golden Link Bible class of the Baptist church will be held at the church Friday of this week at 6:45 p.m. Those in charge state that the committee will furnish bread butter, meat and dessert and- that members attending are asked to brine a vegetable dish or salad. Gifts w"'l be exchanged and members are asked to bring a gift costing not more than 25 cents. e e Lieutenant Here Lt. Curtis Barnes of the United States naval reserve, with Mrs. Barnes, arrived in Medford a few days ago to visit the lieutenant's par ents, Mr. ana Mrs. J. Barnes, 20 North Peach street. Lt, Barnes has been on duty in the South Pacific war area and after his leave is to report to Miami. Fla.. for .special training. He and Mrs. Barnes will be in Medford for the remainder of this week. There will be an exchange of Christmas gifts and members are asked to bring a homemade or homegrown, gift. , e a Minor Accidents Mrs. Mary Ellen Settle of 1028 Reddy ave nue and Ralph Read Raymond of Rt. 3, Box 282, drove automo biles involved in a minor acci dent this morning, according to a report on file today. Mrs. Settle was driving her 1937 Terraplane passenger car west on Main street and Mr. Raymond was going east on Main street in his 1939 Ford V-8. A 1939 Buick coupe going south on Holly street and driven by H. G. White Box 244, Rt. 1, was hit Monday afternoon by a 1939 passenger car being backed out of a drive way by L. H. Mrs. Hedrick was going east on Main street -in a 1S41 passenger car. Flu Fires The local fire de partment was called to extin guish four flu fires yesterday and today. They reported that no damage resulted from any, At 12:10 p. m. yesterday a flu fire was reported at the home of R. F. Steere, 1012 E. Jackson boulevard. The second call came at 7:30 p. m. today, from the home of C. F. Grlgsby, 824 Sum mit street. Mrs. J. W. Wakefield of 1003 W. 10th street sum moned firemen at 8:18 a. m. to day, and J. W. Gustanson of 907 N. Riverside avenue reported a flu fire at his home at 10:28 am today. Promoted Thomas Pittock, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Ralph Pittock of Applegate, has been promoted to staff sergeant, sgt Pittock is stationed at Wilming ton, Dei. The sergeant's parents were notified that thslr son won his promotion "by excellent work as a radio operator and mechanic and his fine military demeanor" in a letter from Cant. Matthew H. Merkle, commander of the air corps headquarters ferrying division at Wilmington Sgt. Pittock enlisted in March of 1942. He graduated from Med ford senior high school in 1933. Sgt. Pittock writes his parents that he enjoys his work in the army very much. E. HIGINB0THAM OF CENTRAL POINT DIES J. E. Higinbotham. known to all his friends as "Ed," passed away at his home near Central Point. Monday night, after a brief illness. A complete obituary will be oublished later, and funeral ar rangements are pending arrival of his son who is in the armed service. Perl funeral home is in charge. A.W.O.L Grants Pass, Dee. 14. Pfc. John J. McCarthy was turned over to Camp White authori ties Friday by local police of ficials. Pfc.-McCarthy had been AWOL since Nov. 3, 1943, the police were Informed. (U.R) Two army pilots were killed instantly when their P-38 fight er planes collided in mid-air off Magu Beach near Oxnard, Cal., the Los Angeles fighter wing an nounced today. Dead were 2nd Lt. Miguel Carrillfo, Jr., San Antonio, Tex., survived by his next of kin Mary Garcia Carrillio, and 1st Lt. Altus G. Stedman, Bakers field, Cal., survived by his wife, Mrs. Merle M. Stedman, also of Bakersfield. After the collision one plane crashed into the sea and the other landed on the beach. Both fliers were stationed at Oxnard army air base..
