Jones, seaman second class, Rt.
4, Medford. He is visiting his
mother, Mrs. Percy Jones, other
relatives and friends. Jones
enlisted Oct. 6 through the local
navy recruiting office in charge

Kyker Promoted Promotion
of Edward L. Kyker from prt

at Ft. Knox, Ky., according to
a news release from the fort.
Cpl. Kyker is assigned to a de
monstration regiment of the ar
mored school headquarters at
Ft. Knox. He is the son of Mrs.
Vivian Kyker and has been in
the army nearly two years.

Barnes of the United States
naval reserve, with Mrs. Barnes,
arrived in Medford a few days
ago to visit the lieutenant's par
ents, Mr. ana Mrs. J. Barnes,
20 North Peach street. Lt,
Barnes has been on duty in the
South Pacific war area and
after his leave is to report to
Miami. Fla.. for .special training.
He and Mrs. Barnes will be in
Medford for the remainder of
this week. Mrs. Barnes is the
former Janet Eames of San
Francisco, and she and Lt,
Barnes were married early in
November.

a report on file today. Mrs. Settle

day, and J. W. Gustanson of 907
N. Riverside avenue reported a
flu fire at his home at 10:28 am

Promoted Thomas Pittock,
son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Ralph
Pittock of Applegate, has been
promoted to staff sergeant, sgt
Pittock is stationed at Wilming
ton, Dei. The sergeant's parents
were notified that thslr son won
his promotion "by excellent
work as a radio operator and
mechanic and his fine military
demeanor" in a letter from Cant.
Matthew H. Merkle, commander
of the air corps headquarters
ferrying division at Wilmington
Sgt. Pittock enlisted in March
of 1942. He graduated from Med
ford senior high school in 1933.
Sgt. Pittock writes his parents
that he enjoys his work in the
army very much.

CENTRAL POINT DIES
J. E. Higinbotham. known to
all his friends as "Ed," passed
away at his home near Central
Point. Monday night, after a
brief illness.
A complete obituary will be
oublished later, and funeral ar
rangements are pending arrival
of his son who is in the armed
service. Perl funeral home is in
charge.

Carrillfo, Jr., San Antonio, Tex.,
survived by his next of kin
Mary Garcia Carrillio, and 1st
Lt. Altus G. Stedman, Bakers
field, Cal., survived by his wife,
Mrs. Merle M. Stedman, also of
Bakersfield.
After the collision one plane
crashed into the sea and the
other landed on the beach.
Both fliers were stationed at
