Three candidates were initiat ed into the order, Mrs. Maggie Erskine, Miss Pauline Erskine, and G. C. Wimer. The president complimented the degree staff captain, Bill Dyer, on the excel lent work. A clever skit, "The Spirit of Christmas," planned by Mrs. Ina Huson, was presented by the i . L. girls. Gifts were presented to the state officers by Mrs. Geor gia Hess. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ella Gould, and refresh ments were served by lrs. Lu- cretia Jordan and her commit tee. Christmas decorations were used for the hall. Lodge Will Hold Christmas Party Thursday Night Mistletoe Camp of the Royal Neighbor lodge will hold the an nual Christmas party for mem bers, their families and invited guests Thursday night, Dec. 16, . at the K of P hall. This affair is always planned as a treat for the children and Santa Claus will be on hand to distribute presents from the Christmas tree. The children will present a pro gram of songs and readings. The party is scheduled for 8 p. m. Plans for the party were made at the first December meeting of the lodge the third and at the second November meeting Mrs 'Mae Logan, state supervisor from Portland, visited the lodge. Visitors from camps in Okla homa and Nebraska were pres ent. Miss Ferguson On Club Program Miss Elizabeth Ferguson re viewed Kathryn Forbes' new book, "Mama's Bank Account," at the meeting of the Thursday Morning Study club last week, the review being termed highly entertaining by the club mem bers. The amusing book is the story of a Norwegian family which settled in San Francisco ond the author presents the fam ily's old-country traits of cour age, honesty and straight think ing in a manner which leaves the reader with a friendly feel ing toward humanity. Miss Ferguson also gave a short review of "The Chink" by Wallace Stegner which ap peared in the Atlantic Monthly several months ago. Next meet ing of the club will be Jan. 13 when Mrs. W. F. Campbell will review "Journey Among War riors" by Eve Curie. Duplicate Bridge Club Tournament Announced The weekly tournaments of the Medford Duplicate Bridge club are continuing, with the next scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Medford hotel. Play begins promptly at 7:45 p. m. High score last Tuesday night was held by William Isaacs and Thomas Fuson. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Clark held second high score and Mrs. A. F. Stennett and D. R. Wood, third. Birthday Party Given For Harriet Grissard Harriet Grizzard, daughter of Col. and Mrs. H. M. Grizzard, was honored at a surprise party last Sunday, celebrating her eleventh birthday. The affair was held at the Grizzard home, 1443 E. Main street. Five girl friends attended the movies with the honored guest, after which they returned to the Grizzard home where Mrs. Grizzard served refreshments. Christmas greens dec orated the club rooms and the hostess table had a large holly centerpiece flanked by tall red candles. Two Christmas songs were given by Miss June Williams, who was accompanied by Miss Lorraine Thompson, and Christ mas carols were sung by the group with Mrs. Clyde Leonaid at the piano. Dessert was fol lowed by bridge with prizes go ing to Mrs. Arthur Wlnetrout and Mrs. George R. Turney. The pinochle prize went to Mrs. Raymond Wilson and another prize was given Mrs. Clarence H.' Reese. New prospective members at tending were Mrs. Wayne Jami son and Mrs. Ruth Stuart, both from Eugene, Mrs. Clarence H. Reese, who came here from PhiladelDhia. and Mm Hmrw Turney from Marshfield. Hostesses for the day .were Mrs. Frank Humphrey, Mrs. Ted Hornecker, Mrs. Calvin Francis and Mrs. Leo McCorkle. Hostess for the next meeting, Dec. 30, will be Mrs. Arthur M. Cannon, assisted by Mrs. Roval Clare and Mrs. Thomas Flanagan. Methodist Circle Christmas Party ' ( Is Held Thursday Mrs. John A. Carter was elected chairman of Loyalty Circle of the First Methodist church at a meeting held last Thursday afternoon in the Sun shine parlors of the church. Mrs. McKeowen was elected vice chairman, Mrs. Walter Johnson was named secretary and Mrs. W. T. Frost, treasurer. The meeting, opened with de votions, was followed by the annual Christmas party of the circle. Christmas carols were sung, gifts exchanged and Mrs. Louis Kirby was presented with a towel shower. A number of new members were introduced during the afternoon. Refreshments were served from a table beautifully ap pointed with Yuletide decora tions, Serving were Mrs. Wil liam B. Hickman and Mrs, L, G. Rankin. Mistletoe Club Elects Officers Miss Blanche .Arnold , was elected president of Mistletoe club at a meeting held last Wed nesday afternoon at the Girls' Community club. She succeeds Mrs. . M. Lovell who has served as president the past year. Mrs. Frank Hussong wai elected vice-president and Mrs H. E. Bismark, secretary. The club made plans for the annual Christmas holiday party which will be held Wednesday Dec. 22, at the clubhouse. It will be a covered dish luncheon at 12:30 p. m. and gifts will be ex changed. Serving on the commit tee for the luncheon will be Mrs Pearl Miller, Mrs. Eldon Zundci and Mrs. Lovell and Mrs. Joe Kingsley will be in charge of the gift exchange. Wesley Adult League Holds Party Monday The Wesley Adult league of the Methodist church held a party last Monday at the home of Miss Thelma Severson on the Jacksonville highway. The eve ning was spent in lively games following which refreshments were served. The home was decorated in Christmas greens and colors. Thirty young peo ple were present.
