Moffitt. 512 North Holly Bl became the bride of Second Lt. Frank A. Prime Sunday, Dec. 8. in a ceremony at St. Mark's EDUcopal church. Lt. Prime is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Prime of Seward, Neb. The informal ceremony took place at 1:30 o'clock in the after noon with the Rev. George ft. Turncy, rector of St. Mark's church, reading the service White chrysanthemums, palms and candelabra with white ta pers were used to decorate the church for the wedding. Mr. Ernest Conrad played a program of wedding music and the wed ding march. Miss Moffitt, given In mar riago by her father, wore a suit of watermelon pink wool with accessories of brown. Her flow ers were a shoulder bouquet 01 brown orchids. Attending the bride was Miss Patricia Farreli. who wore a dress of grey with white accessories and a laven der orchid. For her daughter s wedding Mrs. Moffitt was gowned In a dressmaker suit of grey and her flowers were a shoulder bouque of white orchids. Major Merrill G. Welter was best man for Lt. prime ana serv ing as ushers for the wedding were Major W. K. Evans, Lt. Robert Duke, Lt. Robert Hood and Lt. Minot R. Scarpelll. . The reception was held In the lounge ot the Holland Hotel which was decorated with white chrysanthemums and white tapers. The wedding cake was served from a table arranged with bouvardia and the while tapers. Lt. and Mrs. Prime cut the first slice ot wedding cake and Mrs. Dob' W. Gaibreaith fin ished the serving. Also assisting at the reception were Miss Sally Moffitt, the bride's younger sis ter, Mrs. H. L. Ford, Mrs. Lloyd Hubbard, Miss Carol Tengwald and Miss Jean Hermanson, Lt. and Mrs. Prime made a wedding trip to San Francisco and are returning today to make their home at 318 South Central Ave. Mrs. Prime has a large circle of friends In Medford. She Is a graduate of Medford senior high school and then attended Post Secretarial school In San Francisco for a year. Recently he has been secretary to Major Wtller, head of the Camp While Post Exchange. Lt. Prime Is also with the Post Exchange system at the camp. Martha Gear hart . And Onnis Grieve Wed in California ' Ashland News of the wed ding of Miss Martha Jane Qear hart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Gearbari of Ashland, to Onnis Grieva, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Grieve of Prospect, has been received here. The rites took place Nov. 26 at Oak Knoll chapel at the Oakland Naval hospital, 'Oakland, Calif., the groom being stationed there. Both Mr. and Mrs. Grieve arc graduates ot the Southern Ore gon College of Educotlpn and Mrs. Grlevo taught in the Le banon, Ore., schools last year. Mr. Grieve, hospital apprentice first -class, has been In the navy year. v The couple will reside in Oakland for the present. ... . ... Mrs. Bill Hagen Leaves For Visit With Husband Mrs. Bill C. Hagen left Med ford Thursday for College Sta tion, Tex., where her husband arrived recently for navy train ing at Texas Agricultural and Mechanical college. Mr. Hagen, seaman first class, was recently transferred from Wright Junior college, Chicago, to the Texas school. He Is being trained In radio and radar work. Mrs. Hagen will remain in Texas un til her husband completes his course, which will be approxi mately three months. Mr. Hagen Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al. Hagen, Bl North Peach street. TONIGHT Musical Society Sacred Concert Date Announced Augmenting the usual pro grams of Christmas music will be the concert of sacred music to be presented the evening of Dec. 20 at the Presbyterian church under the auspices of the Medford Musical Society. Featured on the program will oe Cpl. Mark Keisel, Camp White, organist, and he will be assisted by E. N. D Prez, bari tone, Mrs. title Kurtz, soprano. and the ladies' choir of the First Christian church, which Mrs. Kurtz directs. There is to be no charge for the concert and everyone i in vited to attend. Servicemen and their wives are especially invited to be present. Mrs. M. N. Hogan is chairman in charge of the concert plans. University Women View Art Exhibit At S.O.C.E. Monday Ashland Medford and Ash land branches of the American Association of University Wom en met Jointly in Ashland Mon day evening, Dec. 8, the occa sion being an exhibit of art prints from the Portland art museum,, displayed in a room of the administration building of the Southern Oregon College of Education. The exhibit, which was spon sored by the two chapters of AAUW and the college, con sisted of some 35 prints includ ing lithographs, linoleum block prints, steel engravings, silk screens and woodcuts. Robert Dodge of Ashland gave a dis cussion ot the different tech niques represented in Ufa collec tion. Previous to the exhibit, held at 8 o'clock, members of the AAUW met at dinner served In the parish house by Trinity guild of the EpiscopaL church. Mrs. Robert Dodge, president of the Ashland branch, introduced Mrs. Arthur Cannon, president of the Medford branch, and Mrs. Justin Smith, Medford, state chairman of the AAUW International Relations division, who spoke briefly regarding the work ot the group, and Miss Betty Evanson of Medford, who gave two piano solos. Thirty Medford women were In Ashland for the dinner and exhibit. ' Women of Rotary Christmas Party To Be Wednesday The annual Christmas party will be given by Women of Rotary Wednesday of this next week at the , home of Mrs Ernest GUstrap, SB Geneva St. The affair will ba a covered dish luncheon at 1 o'clock and will ben fallowed by an ex change of gifts and a program, the latter to be presented by the girls' sextette of the Medford senior high school. , Members of the group are asked to bring a gift for the members exchange and also a gift for a charity project of the club. Semon, Mrs. Rob ert Duff and Mrs. Kenneth Den- Gold Hill Group Hears Army Nurse Riviera Gold Hill Health unit met at the home of Mrs. Maude Martin In the colony the afternoon of Dec. 8. Miss Helen Parish of Medford was present, accompanied by Capt. Beatrice Dare of the army nurs ing corps of Camp White, who gave an interesting resume of the duties and activities of army nurses. Refreshments were served by the hostess to the Mesdames W. A. Boye, Arthur Boye, Carl Boye, Cameron Hill, Potter, Long, Freauf, Chase, Meiimler, Miller, Bolt, Gail, Miss Parish and Capt. Dure. Lt. James Henry And Lorraine Ude Married in South Of much interest in the val ley is the news of the wedding of Lt. Rupert James Henry of Medford. His bride is the for mer Lorraine Evelyn Ude, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ude of Windsor Gate. Great Neck Long Island, and the ceremony took place December 1 at Christ Episcopal church in Alameda, Cal. Mrs. Rupert James Henry, Sr., went south for the wedding and has now returned to Med ford. For the ceremony, read by the Rev. Henry M. Shires, Miss Ude wore a gown of ivory satin fash ioned with a full skirt and long train. Her veil, an heirloom used toy brides in the Henry family, was of rose point lace held with a cap of the same material. The bridal bouquet was of orchids and bouvardia. Miss Ude was given In marriage by her father. Only attendant for the bride was Mrs. Arthur Petrecca of At lanta, Ga., who for the service was gowned in blue and wore a headpiece of lace. Her flow ers were yellow roses. Best man for Lt. Henry was Jbi. ug) jonn Robinson of the navy medical corps and ush ers were Lt. Warren Bayliss, marine air corps Lt. Robert Knowles and Lt. William Joy ner, navy air corps, and Lt. Tom Sullivan, army air corps. For her son's wedding Mrs. Henry wore a dress of purple and gold with a corsage of yel low orchids. The bride's mother chose costume of rose pink and her flowers were purple orchids. ' The wedding, which was at 8 o'clock in the evening, was followed by a reception at the officers' club at the Alameda naval air station, for ISO friends. Mrs. Henry, Jr., is a graduate of Lasell Junior college, Au burndale, Mass., Adelnhl col lege, Long Island, and the Kath- erine Gibbs Secretarial school in New York. Lt. Henry at tended the University of Wash ington before going Into the navy. He has been stationed at Oakland, Calif., with the naval air corps, but is to be trans ferred to a new post soon. The lieutenant has many friends in the valley, the fam ily having resided here for many years. Newlyweds Leave For Eastern Trip Eagle Point Miss Janet Hurd and Capt. Phillip E. Thompson were married Satur day, Dec. 4, in St. Mark s Epis copal church in Medford by the Rev. George R. Turney and left that evening for a wedding trip to Chicago. The bride is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hurd of Eagle Point. Attendants for the couple were the bride's sister, Mrs. Marion Ayres and Lt Barnes. Enroute home Capt. and Mrs. Thompson will stop in Fargo, N. D., to visit Capt. Thomp son's father, Philip E. Thomp son, Sr. Capt. and Mrs. Thomp son will make their home in the valley for the present, the of ficer being stationed at Camp White with an ordnance bat talion. Mrs. Thompson has resided In the valley for several years and is a graduate of Medford senior high school. Nurses From Camp To Attend Party Nurses from the Camp White Station hospital will be enter tained by the Medford Business and Professional Womens' club for the annual Christmas party of the organization to be held Thursday night of this week. Originally planned for the com munity house at the Medford housing project, the party Is now scheduled for the Girls' Community club and will be at 8 o'clock. Members are asked to bring two gifts for children. GROCETERIA NUMBER 1 Sixth and Central OPEN TODAY 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Concert Season ,Of Association Opens Wednesday Music lovers from all parts of the valley are looking forward to the opening of the concert season for the Jackson County Civic Music association next Wednesday evening. First con cert of the series is to be given by Sidor Belarsky, distinguished Russian bass-baritone, who is making his first western tour. The concert is to be at the high school auditorium on South Oakdale avenue and opens at 8:15 o'clock. Belarsky is often compared to the late Feodor Chaliapin and critics point out that 1.6 larsky's combination of a great voice and unusual dramatic ability make him a worthy suc cessor' to Chaliapin. Belarsky's appearances, both in concert and opera, have rated much praise from New York critics. Second on the series of five concerts will be presented Jan 15 by the Don Cossack's Rus sian choir. The concerts are open to only members of the association. Miss Edmondson, Pfc. Zimmerlee Wed in Medford Butte Falls A wedding of much Interest in this district was that of Miss Iona Edmond son to Pfc. Dallis Zimmerlee. The marriage took place Mon day. Nov. 29. in Medford, the service being performed by Jus tice William Coleman. The bride wore an afternoon dress of powder blue and a cor sage of pink talisman rosebuds. She Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edmondson of Butte Falls and is a popular member of the senior class at high school. She plans to continue school and to graduate with .her class. Pfc. Zimmerlee is the son of Mrs. Blanche Zimmerlee of Trail and a graduate of the 1940 class of Butte Falls high school. He is at present stationed at Camp Adair. After the ceremony, attended by a small group of relatives and close friends, pre. zimmer lee and his bride left for a brief wedding trip and the groom re ported back to Camp Adair Dec. 5. ' Honor Hakkerupe On Anniversary Prospect In celebration of the- thirty-first wedding anni versary of Mr. and Mrs. John Hakkerup, a group of friends gathered Dec. S at the Hakkerup home. ' After the two o'clock dinner, the remainder of the afternoon was spent with music and group 'singing. The guest of honor were presented with set of glass cook ware. Attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Petersen and children, Char leen and Marvin, Mr. and Mrs. Heine Hertager, Mr? and Mrs. Halvor Haukll, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Vognild, Mrs. Frank Salter and Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Artmire and son Frankie. Mr. and Mrs. Wlllard F. Hprn entertained the little Pin ochle club at their home, Dec. 4. Glenn Falrchlld, Sr., won high prize score, Elmer Clem ens won the consolation award, and the traveling prize went to Mrs. Elmer Clemens. After the play, refreshments were served. Medford Navy Mother Plan Christmas Party Medford Navy Mothers' club members are planning a Christ mas party which will be held Wednesday, Dec. IS, at the home of Mrs. Frances McConochie, 1015 West 12th St. The party is planned for 2 p. m. There will be an exchange of Christmas gifts and each woman attending Is asked to bring fruit Juice or cookies. Mothers, wives and sis ters ot men In the navy, naval reserve units, marine or coast guard units are invited to at tend the club meetings. Miss Williams, Cpl. Bornofska Wed Last Week An informal wedding last Wednesday evening united ia marriage Miss Cleo Goltra Wil liams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.' L. Williams of Marshfield, and Cpl. Donald Bornofska, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Born ofska of Racine, Wis. The double-ring service took place at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Frederick G. Thayer,' 2525 Ly man Ave., at 8 o'clock and was read by the Rev. George R. Tur ney, rector of St. Mark's Episco pal church. An improvised altar had been arranged at one end of the living rom 'and English ivy, tall candelabra with, white tapers and baskets of greens and red berries formed a background for the bridal party. A program of nuptial music preceded the service. For her wedding Miss Wl! Hams wore the wedding gown of white net and lace in which Mrs Thayer was married. Her flow ers were a Colonial bouquet of gardenias and bouvardia. At tending the bride were Miss Helen Brown, wearing a floor length gown of blue, and Miss Claire Sporney, who wore a floor-length dress of maize color. Both bad corsages of roses and pom pom chrysanthemums. Mrs. Thayer was attired in a dress of rust toned velvet. Best man for. Cpl. Bornofska was Lt. George O'Brien, Camp White. Following the ceremony a -wedding supper was served with Cpl. and Mrs. Bornofska cutting the weding cake. Mrs. Ray Frisbie poured and Miss Elizabeth McGalliard assisted with the serving. Thirty-six guests attended the wedding. Cpl. and Mrs. Bornofsko are on a wedding trip, during which time they will visit the bride's parents in Marshfield. The cor poral is on a month's leave and will report to the army in Spo- krne at the end of that time. Mrs. Bornofska is on a month's vacation from her work as t public health nurse with the county health department and will continue to make her home here for the present. She has re sided in Medford for the past two years, making her home with the Thayera. Wilsons Returning Horn. After Visit In Medford Mr. and Mrs. Orvllle V. Wil son are leaving this evening to return to Portland after spend ing the past four days visiting Mr. Wilson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. T. Wilson of 223 North Central avenue. Mr. Wilson, a graduate of Med ford, high school, is. a petty officer first class in the U. S. navy medical corps, attached to the office of naval officers procurement in Portland. Mr.. Wilson makes her home in Portland near her husband' station. ' Auxiliary Will Hold Party In Central Point The annual Christmas party and a special business meeting will be held Friday night of this week by the auxiliary to the United Spanish War Veter ans post here. The meeting is to be at the home of Mrs. Bertha Bonney, 515 Laurel St., Central Point and there will be Initiation of candidates and a Christmas gift exchange. Order of the Eastern Star, at th. regular meeting last Thursday night at the Maconic Temple. She succeeds Mrs. Luti- cia Kurtz in that office. Elton Waldren was named worthy patron, succeeding Edward C. Root. Other officer elected were Mrs. Amelia Hiles, associate ma tron; Willis Williams, associate patron: Mrs. Hattie Alden, secre tary; Mrs. Jane McCarty, treas urer; Mrs. Bertha Morse, con ductress; Mrs. Delia Denny, as sociate conductress. Following the meeting, con ducted by Mrs. Kunz and Mr. Root, Men's Night was observed and the men of the chapter served supper. Mr. Root was chairman of the committee In charge. Among the large num ber of Stars present was Mrs. Edna Overmeyer, member of Reames chapter who has return ed to Medford to live after an absence of two and a half years. Union Celebrates 70th Anniversary Of Founders' Day The 70th anniversary of the founding of the Women's Chris tian Temperance Union was celebrated Thursday by the Med ford unit with a meeting at the home of Mrs. L. N. Younger. Mrs. Ira Jones, whose mother was one of the crusaders in Minnesota in 1873, spoke on the early campaigns of the union In that state and showed pictures of events of those days. Dr. Susie V. Standard, presi dent, announced a program of Christmas carols. Mrs. Donn Piatt lead the songs, accom panied by Mrs. E. R. Cobb at the piano and Mrs. Aletha Knut son on the guitar. The Rev. Karl W. Brockhaus of Zlon Lutheran church gave a devo tional message on "Thoughts About Christmas," and Mrs. Piatt sang a carol, accompanied by Mrs. Cobb. Mrs. Minnie Bryant, county president, spoke on the Chil dren's Farm Home work and thanked the women for the gen erous gifts of clothing, toys and other donations for the home, Including a large cash gift. Mrs, Millie Tucker and Mrs. A. E. Lyman assisted Mrs. Younger. Mrs. W. E. Nichol son will entertain the January meeting. Setchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Setchell of Medfordv The marriage took place Nov. 28 at Ft. Knox, Ky. Pvt. and Mr. Setchell are making their home at 104 Shawnee Terrace, Louis ville. Ky. Pvt. Ross Lane, announce the mar riage of their daughter, Reinita Jean, to Lt Charles Owen Welch, son of Mrs. Caroline Welch, Den ver, Colo. The ceremony took place Nov. 29 at Carmel-by-the-. Sea in California at the Church of the Wayfarer and was per formed by Dr. James E. Crowth er, pastor of the church. The bride wore a suit of green wool with black accessories and an orchid corsage for the serv ice, witnessed only by imme diate members of the bride's family. Mrs. Welch is a graduate of Medford senior high school and then attended Southern Oregon College of Education in Ashland, where she was a member of Gamma Delta, local sorority. Lt. Welch attended Colorado Col lege and Denver University, where he was a member of Kappa - Sigma, national social fraternity. Lt. Welch and his bride spent several days in Carmel and San Francisco and have now re turned to Medford to make their home here. Lt. Welch is sta tioned at Camp White with the 370th Ordnance Company. . P.-T. A. Activities Junior High School The Junior High School Par ent-Teacher association will meet Thursday, Dec. 16, at 3 p. m. in Room 41 of the school. Lone Pin. The Lone Pine Parent-Teacher association met Friday, Dec. 3 with 15 members in attendance. A committee working on the project of obtaining band uni forms for students reported that material was unavailable at this time. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Thornton and Mrs. Rob ertson. 4 ' Thimble Club Members Plan Annual Dinner The Thimble club of the Neighbors of Woodcraft lodge is planning the annual turkey dinner.
