Twenty-four schools are nrolled 100. which means that 2569 youngsters of the ele mentary. Junior and senior mgn schools are leading the way toward a 100 county enroll ment. Production for the armed forces and for war relief began some months ago and through out the summer the Junior Red Cross workshops turned out many needed articles. Since school opened mnny more haw been made. This past week five large boxes of articles for patients in hospitals were packed and shipped from Mcdford. There were 103 jigsaw puzzles, 53 lao boards and 60-odd comfort ar ticles all made by Juniors. In each school boxes are filled with Christmas articles for ref ugee children. Three huge boxes containing In all 100 smaller boxes were shipped as well as four boxes of Christmas tree dec orations for overseas. . Juniors in Jackson county are asked to produce a large quota; but their enthusiasm is grea, and there Is every reason to know that the program planned for them by Miss Vera Humphrey, chairman, and their teachers will be carried out suc cessfully. MEDFORD COMMUNITY fir WAR CHEST A Message From the Bakers oi BREAD WIS BREAD and CAKES Women's Missionary Societies Plan Joint Armistice Day Meet The United Council of Church Women of the United States is asking all churches of all Christian denominations In the United States to observe World Community Day on Armistice Day, Thursday, Nov. 11. Women's missionary societies of all the Christian churches of Medford, Jacksonville and Phoenix will have a day of prayer in Medford. There will be a pot-luck din ner at the First Christian church at 12 o'clock, followed by a service of prayer and praise with special music and speakers from the various churches. An intermission at 1:30 p. m. will be given so that anyone wish ing to leave before close of the meeting may do so. A very large attendance is expected. The World Community Day is described by the sponsors as "one of the greatest adventures in Christian unity attempted by church women. One of the most important features is that it establishes the council as a way that the denominations can work together on a state and national level, and a way to enduring peace." The council expects about ten million will participate in the nation-wide prayer service. SHOW HERE NEXT FRIDAY, SATURDAY Local Civilian Defense com mittees, cooperating with the Women's Army Corps "All- States" Casualty Replacement Recruiting campaign, indicated Saturday that they have swung into action in an all-out effort to enroll a woman for each Jackson county soldier reported killed or missing. The goal is fifteen recruits. Mrs. Herbert Alford, Amer ican Legion Auxiliary recruit ing chairman, expressed a hope that the goal would be reached by; Friday, Nor. 5, when the WAC Carnival Caravan will ar rive for a two-day showing here. The unit will be located at the courthouse and will be open to visitors between 10 a. m. and 3 p. m. Free movies concerning life In the WACs will be shown to women between the ages of 20 and 50 who are eligible for enrollment. A special program is being planned for Saturday, Nox. 6, and will be held in the courthouse auditorium at 3 p. m. lx. Margaret steelneaa ana Technical Sergeant Ardele Car ter will be on hand at all times to explain the unusual opportu nities offered to women during the "All-States" recruiting pro gram. They will be assisted by members of the local Civilian Defense Council. During the Saturday show winners of the local WAC essay contest will be announced and presented with prizes. Winner of first prize honors will also have her essay entered in the district contest which ends De cember 7. Zone Convention Of Nazarene Church To Meet Here Tuesday Medford Church of the Nazar ene Is to be host for a zone Church School and Missionary convention all day Tuesday. The church is located at Holly and First streets. Special speakers will include Dr. Roy F. Smee of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Mrs. E. Y. Davis of Mexico, Dr. E. E. l ( . Weatherford, district chairman of the Church School board. Dr. Smee has been superinten dent of the Northern California district for the past seven years. Mrs. Davis Is one of the out standing missionaries in 'the Church of the Nazarene. She and her husband have supervision of the northwest part of Mexico. The day's services will begin at 10 a. m. Dr. Smee speaks at 11 a. m. following quarterly re ports of the southern Oregon pastors, under direction of Dr. E. E. Martin. There will be spec ial music. The afternoon session will be gin at 2 p. m. with addresses by Dr. Smee and Mrs. Davis. A Sunday School-Missionary rally will open at 7 p. m. Delegations will be present from Grants Pass, Prospect, Reese Creek, Lakeview, Bonan ze, Klamath Falls, Ashland and Medford. The public Is Invited to attend the convention. A champion - greyhound.
