This has led many to be lieve that the national heulth has been greatly Improver1, and the life-span lengthened. Such is apt to give the wrong Impression. It is true that infant mortality has been reduced. Yet, the death reaper continues his pace in the older age groups. "Defensive Diet" resorts that Dr. V. G. Heiser, author of "An American Doctor's Odyssey" recently said before the American Association k fo: the Advancement of Science: "Vour chance of increasing your life-span after the age of 35 has not been increased one iota in the past 100 years!" This only substantiates statements the writer has made several times. Improvement has resulted in the saving of the young. But little or nothing has been done for the person after the age of 35, and especially so should he have a chronic disease. It is tune re search from a new view-point be started. WEEK-END RAIN Rains falling over the week end were highly beneficial, but caused no rejoicing in some agri cultural circles, County Agent Robert G. Fowler reported to day. Farmers with corn to harv est and ladino to thresh, could have stood a few days delay, it was explained. On the other hand, the mois ture freshened the fall pastures and orchard cover crops, and put the ground in good shape for fall plowing and seeding. Snow in the hills started stockmen to driving down tardy cattle. The rain was general throughout the county. , Livestock Portland, Ore, Oct. as (DP) Live stock: Cattle. 3400: calve. 835.
