OI.K Soviet Premier Josef Stalin, In a unique message to the Ameri can people read at a war loan drive ceremony here, said today that success of the $15,000,000, 000 bond campaign would help bring victory "over the bitter enemy within the shortest time." The message said that Ameri can manufacture of war ma terial renders "great support in the fight with our common enemy." I The message was read at the F"Back the Attack" show here by Ma. Gen. A. I. Beyaev of the .Soviet air forces. For 26 Months Stalin's message said: "For 26 months the Soviet Union has been engaged in a difficult war of liberation against our common enemy, Hitlerite Germany, and her satellites Finland, Rumania and Hungary. In this gigantic war more than S00 divisions are in volved on both sides. "Today the Soviet army, the Red army, is advancing from Smolensk to the shores of the Black sea, pursuing and driving the hated enemy from Soviet soil. In this struggle the Red army also Is successfully em ploying planes, tanks, guns and other munitions and equipment which are received from the Al lied United States and Great Britain. Lin ley, Jr., 19, committed suicide by inhaling carbon monoxide from his mother's car in the Hollywood hills. Sept. 23 0J.R) Partial elevator service was maintained at huge Rockefeller Center today as management and union officials sought to end an insurgent operators' walkout which left thousands of office workers stranded in the sky scraper buildings at the evening rush hour last night. The operators staged the strike, the second in three months, at 4:30 p. m. yesterday, leaving most of the 27,000 per sons employed in the 12 build ings marooned on upper levels. Many were forced to walk down to the street, some from as high as the 60th floor. Reports on the sample groups were made in the AMA Journal from studies of the results of physical examinations given 45, 585 teen aged inductees between December, 1942, and February, 1943. Of 42,273 white youths ex amined, 23.8 per cent were re jected, the article said, and 45.5 per cent of the 3.312 negroes were rejected. Half the rejections of negro youths re sulted from educational defi ciency or syphilis, the Journal said.
