There is a fire-guard before the hearth because the parents cannot warn Sylvia if she gets too near the flames. She has un dergone five operations since the day when a solitary enemy raider came over during the holding of a Spitfire fund rally. It dropped bombs which killed many men, women and children. After the Lawsons were led to safety, they were admitted to St. Dunstan's Home for the Blind at Church Stretton. Here they were taught to face life in darkness. Glad to be with her- par ents again, she helps to make the beds, washes and dries the wishes. She soon will attend a school for blind children.
