ber of Parliament, Sir Iran Fraser, who has devoted himself to
the cause of those similarly handicapped. He has just returned
to England from a visit to the United States.

her father, Walter John Lawson.
Sylvia has partial use of one eye.
Yet with the help of Sylvia,
who is a delicate, fair-haired
little girl, M.-S. Lawson keeps a
modern, six-room house at Stret
ton, Lancashire.
Since the Lawsons were blind
ed and a baby daughter killed
when Warrington was raided in
September. 1940, they have built
up a new plan of living.
At night In the Lawsons home

armchair with his pipe alight,

their feetj Lawson is 33 and his
wife is 31.
There is a fire-guard before
the hearth because the parents
cannot warn Sylvia if she gets
too near the flames. She has un
dergone five operations since the
day when a solitary enemy
raider came over during the
holding of a Spitfire fund rally.
It dropped bombs which killed
many men, women and children.
After the Lawsons were led to
safety, they were admitted to St.
Dunstan's Home for the Blind at
Church Stretton. Here they were
taught to face life in darkness.
In 16 months Mrs. Lawson learn
ed braille and typewriting and
was able to do housework again
and to look aftsr Sylvia, Lawson
learned typing, telephone oper
ating and joinery. They formed
a new home and found existence
all but normal.
Sylvia went for a time to the
blind children's home In South
port. She was there when it was
bombed and most of the nurses
killed. Glad to be with her- par
ents again, she helps to make
the beds, washes and dries the
wishes. She soon will attend a
school for blind children.
"I can put my hand on any
thing here in a minute," said
Mrs. Lawson, who Is proud of
what she has made of her home.
"Cooking was the most difficult
thing of all to learn things kept
getting burned. Now I can tell
when they are crisp and properly
done by the feel and smell.
"There are two things I
shan't forget the scent of flow
ers and the song of birds. We
seem to rely more on them than
other people do. I can't pass a
garden in summer now without
stopping. When I had sight, I
never even bothered to look at
birds." ,
Mr. Lawson, who formerly
was a gardener and sportsground
caretaker and a member of the
Home Guard, Is now a telephone
operator for the firm which em
ployed htm before he lost his
sight.

Tom Stanley reported for the
agriculture committee that gaa
is hard to get. It is hoped that

there isn't a ceiling on hops but
a floor price of not less than
$13.35. The cattle price is ex
pected to rise.
Mr. Stanley also stated that
all wishing to ship fat stock to
