Aiding Marquess, the Ashland high school flash, in the Bomber victory was Pvt. Warren Chil gren, who. scored three timet, and McCollum, who made one goal. The lone tally for the Gun ners came in the second period, with Pvt. J. Werderber scoring on an assist from Pvt. A. Morana. The Bombers were held to a single goal in the firsi heat, but opened up to score four timet in the second quarter and thrice in the final 15 minute. CALIFORNIA FIVE Berkeley, Cal., Dec. 19 Cal ifornia's Golden Bears chalked up an easy victory 8 to 32 bas ketball victory over the Oak land naval air base quintet here tonight in a rough-and-tumble game that saw 37 personal fouls called. IB (U.FD University of California at Los Angeles defeated San Francisco university 39 to 37 in a closely fought basketball game here to night. The victory gave UCLA the two-game series, the Bruins hav ing downed the Dons 41-30 last night. The Bruins had a 13-7 lead midway in the first period after Marvin Lee, lanky UCLA cen ter, popped two field goals, but the Dons quickly tied it up 13 13 and went into the lead 17-18. In the last 12 seconds of the per iod, Capt. John Fryer, Pruin guard, pitched one from the cen ter to end the half 18-17. The Dons immediately took over. 21-18 as the second period opened and the game see-sawed back and forth until the Bruins finally polished it off. E Portland, Dec. 19 (U.R) The Oregon State college basketball team tonight entrained tor New York, where they will meet City College of New York in Madison Square Garden next Saturday night. Charles Lawrence, a naval vessel named for a Port land youth who died in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked, will be launched in Boston next month and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Lawrence, will par ticipate. It was Purdue's second defeat in four starts, Notre Dame's third victory in last four starts with the Boilermakers. Purdue got off to a 9 to 1 lead, but didn't score a field goal in the final 13 minutes of the DUTCH AIR SCHOOL OLD ALARM CLOCK AT FANCY PRICE Los Angeles, Dec. 19 (U.R) Second hand alarm clocks are now selling for 84 to $3 and new clockvare virtually unobtain able here. Thousands of defense workers have cleaned out local stocks and many merchants reported they had had no clocks for three to six months. A canvass of pawn shops re vealed that the few used sleep- wreckers available were bring ing fabulous prices. One second hand, somewhat battered pink boudior alarm clock was priced at $6.50. Low est figure quoted by a skid-row shop was 32.50. ROB TRACK OFFICIAL San Francisco, Dec. 19 (U.R) Police tonight instituted a state wide search for two bandits who hijacked $2,500 in Bay Meadows racetrack funds from Jack Kyne, head cashier, after binding Kyne and his wife with neckties and threatening to torture them if they did not disclose the hiding place of the money. STANFORD TO TRAVEL Stanford University, Cal., Dec, 19 (U.R) Coach Everett Dean tonight announced the traveling squad for the Stanford basket ball team's trip to New Orleans, where the Indians tangle with the Great Lakes Naval Training Station quintet in part of the annual New Orleans mid-winter sports show. The proceeds of the game go to navy relief. WAR BENEFITS San Francisco, Dec. 19 (U.R) Families of men killed in ac tion with the heroic U. S. cruiser San Francisco will receive total of $10,000 from the pro ceeds of the San Francisco Chronicle's benefit prize fight card last Monday, the newspaper announced tonight. Jackson. Miss. (U.R) Jackson was settled by mericans, but it rapidly is becoming a Dutch colony. It all started with the estab lishment of the Netherlands Roy al air force training school here, but since then many refugees from Dutch cities in Java have made their homes In Mississippi's capital city. The presence of the flying Dutchmen and their families pro vided the nucleus for the settle ment, which recently has been visited by the Queen and Prin cess Juliana of the Netherlands.
