Cou gars. 29 to 20, In battle that aw the locali Jump Into an early lead at 2 to 1 and never relin quish their advantage. After four minutes of play in the first period tha Bengals boasted a commanding 8 to 1 lead, and they continued their brilliant playing to wind up with 12 to 8 bulge by tha time the quarter was over. Completely dominating the backboards, the Tigers contin ued to pour In the baskets un til, with three minutes left In the half, but one of the original starters Guard Hob Deuel was still In action. The half closed with the Tigers ahead, 18 to 0. The two teams were equal In (he third and fourth quarters, matching basket for basket. ' The Tigers were able to keep (he upper hand throughout the game, mainly because of the fine playing of Captain Don Fawcett, the fireball forward Fawcett re peatedly stole the ball from the hands of his opponents to set up Tiger scoring plays, and besides hawking the leather he was high point man for both teams with 13 points. Many of his tallies came when the Cougars were un able to get the ball In from un der the local basket because he was always there to snatch It. Scott, the tall Negro center for the invaders, was outstanding for his quintet In the preliminary, the sopho mores eked out a 17 to IS vic tory over the Junior high team. HELD AS BABY'S FATHER Pittsburgh, Dec. 19 (U.B City police said tonight that Rob ert Tyson, 27, formerly of San Diego, Cal., was being held in Youngstown, O., as the father of Pittsburgh's abandoned "mys tery baby." HALT NEVADA PROJECTS San Francisco, Dec. 19 (U P) Work on two more Nevada projects has , been ordered stopped by the war production board, the war production board announced today. HOLD SHOOT FOR TURKEYSJODAY The Medford Gun club annual turkey shoot at the club grounds at Snowy Butte Four Corners today Is expected to draw the usual big crowd that has attend ed the popular event since the contests were first started sev eral years ago. Shooting at the sixteen-yard traps, where the turkeys will be contested for, will start at 11 o'clock sharp in order to provide sufficient time to complete the long program. Both turkeys and war stamps will be used as prizes, some of the events having both first and second prizes, and other meth ods of distribution of turkeys being used for those who do not desire to contest by shooting at the traps. As a large attendance Is ex pected the club plans to have the shooters divided into squads so the Inexperienced and less ex pert shooters will contest against shooters of their own ability, the better shots being grouped In other squads. Hot lunch with coffee will be served throughout the day and the public is Invited to the shoot with the same prices charged club members. Spectators are cordially invited to enjoy the program. Camp White (Spl.) The 91st Infantry Division will hold a 16-team basketball tourna ment, starting Christmas Day at the large sports arena at Camp White. Entering the tour nament will be the leading teams of each of the 18 leagues now playing in the "Powder River" division. The big gym, which has three basketball courts, will have two games going at a time as the 18 leading teams fight it out for tha Christmas tournament tro phy. Tha tournament closes New Year's night with tha two remaining teams battling for the honors. In the 91st division Is found one of tha most extensive ath letic programs in the country. In addition to 90 basketball teams which are playing in 18 leagues there are boxing teams holding their eliminations and getting ready for the team fights which start January 8. Military track meets are held at regular intervals. Voleyball and bad minton teams are waiting until there Is space available in the sports arena so they can start their seasons. Guard Gene Vance scored what proved to be the winning basket at the thre minute trrrk to break a 32-52 deadlock. The teams traded free throws and then Forward Andy Phillip added the clincher. Forward Ken Kenke scored 21 points for the Illint. . - New York. Dee. ID (U.R St. John's university, paced by Center Harry Baykoff, who loop ed 18 point through the hoop, notched its fourth straight vic tory tonight by defeating Okla homa 51-43 In the opening game of a doubleheader at Madison Square Garden before a crowd of 15,000. TROJANS DEFEAT PRE-FLIGHT 2H3 Los Angeles, Dec. 19 U.R) Completely outplaying their foes, the University of Southern California Trojans 'wound up their football season today with a aolid 21-13 trouncing over the St Mary's Navy Pre-FllRht team. The crowd of 9000 was the smallest before which any Tro jan team had ever played in the Memorial Coliseum. The Navy team scored soon after the game opened when Heywood couldn't get his punt off, deep in his own territory. A swarm of Pre-Flighters fell on the ball, taking it over on the 1 Trojan 10. On the first play' Bottarl passed to Grayson in the , end zone. Falaschi missed the conversion. The Trojans brounced right back on the scoreboard, piloted j by McCardht't short passes and Bleeker's smashes at the line, tha Trojans roared 78 yards in 14 plays, climaxed when Bleeker dove over the top of a huge pile of players from the one-yard line. Jamison booted tha con version. Hardy and Callanan alternat ed at lugging the ball and Hardy topped it off by squeezing through the right side of the line from the one-yard line for the touchdown.. Jamison again kick ed the conversion. - Early in the third period Mc Cardle, after being held at tha line by tha big Pre-Fllght for ward wall, dropped back and looped a long aerial to Heywood who snared it on tha navy 10 and ran on over unmolested. Jamison kicked tha goal for a perfect percentage. The Pre-Flighters scored mid way in the fourth period when Bottari took to the air himself and connected to Gentry in tha end zone.
