James Cresap Hayet, and Tech nical Sergeant George Curtis '8mith, U. S.'army air force, was solemnized Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a. m. at a nuptial mass in the Sacred Heart Catholic church 'with Rev. F. W. Black offici ,atlng. Rev. William Meagher, chaplain at Sacred Heart hos ' pital, a friend of the bride's family, assisted during the cere mony. Given In marriage by her fa rther, the bride wore a gown of white brocaded velva ray fash ioned with long sleeves, tight bodice and full skirt and train. She wore a finger-tip veil held In place by a tiny lace cap and carried a white prayer book with a spray of white orchids .and satin streamers. The bride was attended by her 'three sisters, Miss Mary, maid , of honor, . who wore a dress of chiffon velvet and marquisette and carried a bouquet of white baby chrysanthemums. Miss Vir ginia and Miss Dorothy, brides maids, wore similar dresses of chiffon velvet and marquisette and carried colonial bouquets of white baby gladioli and rose buds. Ail wore long white kid gloves, and wreaths of gardenias in their hair. Best man for the bridegroom was his brother, Lieut. Walter Smith of King City, Cal. Ushers were the bride's three brothers, James C. Hayes, Jr., of San Francisco, Dan Hayes and Larry Hayes and Murray Gardiner. Mrs. Hayes, mother of the bride, wore a black silk crepe suit with black accessories and corsage of purple orchids. .. A white canvas was laid from the vestibule to the sanctuary for the bridal party and the church was decorated with white gladioli and asters and lighted white tapers in candleabras. Sebastian Apollo, organist, played the Gregorian music dur ing the ceremony. A wedding breakfast followed at the Hayes home, 839 East Main street, for a few friends and the immediate family. The bridal table was centered with a bouquet ot baby chrysanthe mums and stephanotis. The three-tiered wedding cake topped awlth a miniature bride and sol dier was first cut by the bride. For traveling Mrs. Smith wore three-piece mulberry suit of botany wool with silver fox trim and black accessories and a cor sage of white orchids. They left by United Mainllner Saturday afternoon for 10-day trip to Los Angeles and will make their home on Barneburg road. Technical Sergeant Smith Is stationed at the Medford munici pal airport with the U. S. army air corps. Marybeth Brad fish, William Laird Marry In Nevada , Married In Gardnervllle, Nev., Sunday morning, Sept. 8 at 11 o'clock were Miss Marybeth Bradfish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bradfish of this city and William Laird, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Laird of Gait, Cal. The ceremony was read In the First Methodist church of Card r.ervllle with the Rev. Mr. Grim shaw presiding. The couple was attended by Miss Mary Lee Strang of this city and Wilbur Penrson of Gait. For her wedding the bride chose a brown tweed dressmaker suit with brown and green acces sories and a corsnce of summer flowers. Miss Strang wore a .ol dier blue suit with rust acces sones. Also attending the wed ding were the bridemom's par ents and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Penrson of Gnlt. Mrs. Laird graduated from Medford hlKh school and has been employed by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph com pany. Mr. Laird completed high school at Gait and is with the Medford Cleaners. They will make their home in this city. Club Plans "Kid" Party Plans for a "Back to School" meeting for members of the Pat Nnhle Grand club were made Thursday evening at the Girls Community clubhouse with Viola AMredge in charge of the meeting. Sister Olive iSfts were! presented and a social hour fol lowed with refreshments served by Mary Cave, Nida Oatman, Bess Dyer and Veva Winter. Those attending the Back to School meeting are asked to bring lunch in a paper sack or! lunch pail and dress accordingly. Six of this city was told Thursday evening at the home of Miss Natalie Tengwald on Kings highway. ' Miss Stephen son is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Stephenson and Mr. Six, the grandson of John A. Perl, also of Medford. The announcement and wed ding date, November 1, were re vealed by tiny white scrolls fastened with wedding rings and attached to long streamers on the dining table which was cent ered with white asters. Miss Stephenson is a graduate of Medford high school and is employed at Kay Lithographing. Inc. Mr. Six attended Univer sity of Oregon where he was af filiated with Phi Delta Theta. He plans to enter civilian pilot training at Klamath Falls in No vember. Attending the betrothal party were Mrs. R. O. Stephenson, Mrs. John A. Perl. Miss Tat Wilkinson. Finch Wed At St. Mark's Miss Jean Elizabeth Hensel man, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Henselman of 119 Crater Lake avenue and Richard V. Finch, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Finch of Colorado National Monument, Colorado, were married at 12 noon yesterday In St. Mark's Episcopal church with the Rev. Herald G. Gardner officiating The church was decorated with potted ferns, white gladioli and white asters and lighted white tapers. Preceding the cere mony Mrs. Eva Marsh played incidental music and Miss Pat ricia Dippel sang "At Dawning." The wedding party entered the church to the traditional wedding march. The bride wore a wedding gown of marquisette and lace, fashioned with long sleeves, with the train and sirt paneled with lace. Her tulle veil was finger tip and held in place with a bovardla halo. Her wed ding bouquet was gardenias and bovardia with satin streamers Her only jewelry was a double strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom. She was given in marriage by Mark A. Goldy. Miss Lois Pringle, maid of hon or wore a peach marquisette and lace dress with a halo of flow ers In her hair. She carried a colonial bouquet. Bridesmaids were Miss Nanette Holmes in aqua marquisette and lace; Miss Jean Schuler in pink and Miss Patricia Farrell In blue. All car ried colonial bouquets and wore halos of flowers. Dick Lahltl of Corvallis was best man for the bridegroom. Ushers were Bob Morris of Cor vallis, Bob Fischer of Portland and Rus Sackett of Sheridan. The bride's mother wore a light fc.een silk suit with black hat and accessories an' a cor sage of pink rosebuds. Mrs. Finch, mother of the bride groom, wore blue velvet with blue accessories and a shoulder corsage. A reception at the Henselman home honored the wedding party and was attended by about 40 guests. Pastel flowers and the wedding cake centered the bridal table and lighted tapers completed the arrange ment. The cake was first cut by the bride. Assisting were the maid of honor and bridesmaids. Mrs. Finch chose an aqua blue ensemble with brown hat and ac cessories for traveling. The cou ple left on the afternoon United Mainllner for Sacramento, Cal., and will continue to Colorado where they will enter University of Colorado at Boulder for the coming school year. Among out of town guests were the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Finch, former Med ford residents; the Rev. and Mrs. B. A. Finch of Lakevicw, grand parents of the bridegroom; Miss Juanita Finch and Ellsworth Cle land, also of Lakevicw; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Butler of Grants Pass. The bride it graduate of Medford high school and at tended Oregon State College, where she was affiliated with Sigma Kappa. The bridegroom also attended Oregon State col lege and was a member of Sig nit Phi Epsllon. Farewell Banquet Given Young Pople A farewell banquet for young people of the First Presbyterian church who will be leaving soon for college or entering the ser vice was held Wednesday eve ning at the church. Fall fruit, foliage and yellow candles deco rated the tables and menus writ ten In French were made by Clara Daniels and Elaine Walker. Verl Walker, sponsor of the group, acted as toastmastcr. Special numbers were given by Helen Webb. Clara Daniels and Bob and John Brewer. Later games, under the direction of Mrs. Iva Murray were played. Honored were Margaret Rob erts, Harris Janes, Austin Mur ray, Harry Lydiard. Bob Brewer and Harold Troutman. Special guests were the Rev. and Mrs. H. W. Hansen and daughter, Miss Helen. About 30 young people en oyed the banuet and entertain ment which was arranged and served by mothers of the group . Wil cox of route 1, Medford, an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Natalie. Louise of Washington, D. C, to Lieut. Don ald M. Crooks, son of Mrs. R. M. Crooks of Dallas, Tex., at Phoe nix City, Ala., Sept. 6. The bride is a graduate of Phoenix high school and Med ford. Business college and has been employed on the general staff of the war department in the nation's capital. Lieut. Crooks recently received his commission at Fort Benning, Ga., and is lieutenant in the army of the United States. She wore a rose afternoon dress with brown hat and acces sories and a corsage of gardenias and roses. The ceremony was read at the First Baptist church with the Dr. L. W. Lee officiat ing. They were attended by Lieut, and Mrs. Russell C. Spahr of Columbus, Ga. Lieut, and Mrs. Crooks are making their home at present at 1515 Dinglewood Drive, Colum bus. . . Padget, Wed At Church The First Christian church was the scene of the wedding last Sunday of Miss Delia Mae Dale and Albert F. Padget, Jr., at 4 o'clock with the Rev. Reu ben Coleman reading the double ring ceremony in the presence of relatives and friends of the couple. The church was decorated with summer flowers and wed ding music was played by Kath- ryne Gentner. The bride, who wore a wedding gown of white slipper satin with lace trim and a finger-tip veil, was given in marriage by her father. She car ried a bouquet of gardenias and stephanotis. Miss Edna Dale was maid of honor and bridesmaids were her two sisters, Alta and Forest with her niece. Dale Arlene Hartley as flower girl. The attendants wore pastel gowns and carried bouquets of asters. Ushers were Thayle Ford and Price Shafer. The bride's mother, Mrs. Wal ter L. USI And ADRIENNE Many Friends Extend Wishes To Mrs. Purucket Many friends called at the home of Mrs. George "Auntie" Purucker Wednesday afternoon to extend congratulations on her 80th birthday anniversary. The "open house" was a surprise to "Auntie" Purucker and Indeed an enjoyable occasion for her. Over 100 friends called between tv hours of 3 and 8 p. m. She received many gifts and cards from many sections of the United States and her home was arranged with bouquets of flow ers from her relatives, friend and neighbors. Auntie Purucker's 32 years of residence in Medford has oeen marked by 28 years ot "baby service," having operated a ma ternity home which was the birthplace of over 2.000 babies, many now in service of their country. She retired three years ago from operation of her ma ternity home. Mrs. Margaret Fabrlck pre sided a the tea table during the afternoon. A large centerpiece of roses and delphinium was ar ranged on the table. Also assist ing were Mrs. I. E. Schuler, Mrs. John Nanson and daughter. Miss Fisher and Margaret Mary Mann.
