FISH GAFFERS GET $25 FINES, COSTS James C. Martin, 18, and Arthur Shoemaker, 18, Gold Hill youths were fined $25 and costs in justice court yesterday for gaffing fish in Rogue river. Martin, a cantonment worker and Shoemaker, employed at the cement plant, were given time to make payments. Miles Stuart, charged with having no driving license was assessed $2.90 and costs; Elmer W. Irwin, Jr., $1 and costs for no muffler; Arthur W. Schme chel, route 4, was fined $1.50 for no operator's license, and Heber W. Fowler, $2.50 and costs for no license. Hoppers Plague Eastern Oregon Pendleton, Ore., July 10. (JP) Umatilla, Gilliam, Morrow and Grant counties were re ported today to be facing the worst grasshopper plague in years, although crop damage has not yet become extensive. Several stands of alfalfa and green wheat have been de stroyed close to foothill regions from which the -'hoppers are working their way down toward valley lands. State Fair Fate Waits Conference Salem, July 10. (P) Direc tor of Agriculture J. D. Mickle said today he would meet with Governor Sprague and 4-H club leaders early next week to de cide whether to hold a 4-H club fat stock show early in Septem ber. In spite of a statement re ceived from Senator McNary to day that all county and state fairs would be held as sched uled, Mickle said there probably won't be any Oregon State fair.
