No explanation was given for continuing the classification. The war materials saved by halting manufacture of almost all musical instruments could be used in making 11,500 6-ton army trucks, 83 medium tanks, 49,000,000 rounds of .30 caliber cartridges and 40,000 aircraft flares. E FOR CONTROL OF Washington, July 9 (IP) The agricultural department an nounced the appointment of j twelve growers and handlers as 1942-43 members of the control committee for the federal mar- Keting agreement program for winter pears grown in Washing ton. Oregon and California. The committee supervises the program which regulates the handling in interstate and for eign commerce and Anjou, Bosc, winter Nelis, Cornice, Caster and Clairgeau pears grown in the three states. The program in effect since 193B was Inaugurated at the request of the growers. Members and alternates of the committee include: Medford district Growers: Chester Fitch and C. C. Clem ens, of Medford. Handlers S. M. Tuttle and E. T. Newby, of Medford, Fitch and Clemens are well known growers of the valley. Tuttle is manager of Southern Oregon Sales, Inc., and Newbry is a grower and packer of the Talent area. FOR FORT LEWIS ' Tacoma, Wash., July 9 (JPy l tie army announced today the appointment of Lieut. Col. C. Clarence Neslen, former mayor and commissioner of Salt Lake City and a bishop of the Mor mon church, as post chaplain of nearby Fort Lewis. Colonel Neslen, the army said, had personally tasted of reli gious persecution at the hands of intolerant German militarists before the last World war. For a period of three years he was jailed, persecuted and driven from towns in Germany for preaching.
