Clarence Neslen, former mayor
and commissioner of Salt Lake
City and a bishop of the Mor
mon church, as post chaplain
of nearby Fort Lewis.
Colonel Neslen, the army said,
had personally tasted of reli
gious persecution at the hands
of intolerant German militarists
before the last World war. For
a period of three years he was
jailed, persecuted and driven
from towns in Germany for
preaching.
