FOR NAZI TOWNS Burning United States Plane Carrier Lexington Is Abandoned 1 Washington, June 13 (JP) Destruction of "several" Ger man villages by air bombard ment was urged upon the Unit ed Nations today by Jan Mas aryk, Czechoslovakian vice-premier and foreign minister, as re taliation for the wiping out of the whole Czech town of Lidice by German vengeance squads. Masaryk said he had received many messages of sympathy after the German announcement Wednesday that the Bohemian village of 1,200 had beep de stroyed and all Its male inhab itants killed for allegedly harbor ing the two assassins of Rein hard Heydrich. In a formal statement issued through the Czechoslovakian legation, Masaryk expressed gratitude for condemnation of the Lidice incident by American public opinion, but said "sym pathy and condemnations are not enough." "It seems to me that the time has come to pay the Germans in kind," he added. "I think that the brave, won derful Dilots of the United Na tions should destroy several) German villages and for every defenseless man, woman and child in the occupied countries, at least the same number of de luded Germans should pay the supreme price x x x." John Garfield In Dramatic Film On Program At Holly As timely as the headlines on the front page of this newspaper Is the completely absorbing story of two young Americans who bravely face danger in order to save their country from its would-be-back-stabbers, the fifth columnists In "Dangerously They Live", starring John Gar field, Nancy Coleman and Ray mond Massey, which opens a three day run today at the Holly Theater. According to advance information the picture is said to be jammed to the gunnels with action, thrills and excite ment. "Dangerously They Live" tells the story of a pair of young peo ple who foil the plot of an enemy spy ring and thus save a whole fleet of Uncle Sam's submarines bound for England with a con voy of supply ships. Miss Coleman portrays a se cret British Agent who is kid naped by foreign agents. The adventure she leads John Gar field into will prove to be one of the screen's big thrill sensa tions. Raymond Massey and Moroni Olsen plays the leaders of the spy ring. Others in the cast are Lee Patrick and Esther Dale. "Alias Boston Blackie", a new mystery film with the screen's slickest sleuth, Boston Blackie, In the new and deeper trouble, plays as the added feature with the Sth column thriller. Wright of 60 North Orange street, is now stationed at Camp Crowder, Mo., his mother said yesterday. Pvt. Wright is attached to Co. A, 33d battalion, signal corps. Licenses Purchased Many Medford persons have taken ad vantage of the opportunity of early purchasing of their federal automobile stamps for the fiscal year, starting July 1, In order to avoid the congestion around the first of the month. The stamps, costing $5, are on sale at the post-office. Unit To Meet Phoenix home extension unit will meet next Friday noon at the home of Mrs. Wayne Carter on the Fort Baker road off Anderson road near Phoenix. Home From Island Albert Wall has returned to this city from Honolulu, T. H., for a 60 day furlough with his mother,, Mrs. A. M. Wall of McAndrews road. He la employed as a project in Honolulu. Prior to be ing employed in Honolulu he was working on Palmyra Island for five months, being transfer red to Honolulu after Japanese bombing attacks on that Island. Not The Same The Cecil Hunt of Long's Motel, who was Injured in an automobile acci dent at the Beall Lane and Pa cific highway intersection Thursday night, was not Cecil Hunt, Sr. of Myers Lane, owner of Hunt's Ice Cream Shop, nor Lieut. Cecil Hunt, Jr., who is stationed In Louisiana. Mrs. Hunt informed the Mail Tribune yesterday. Mrs. Hunt said num erous telephone calls had been received by he family enquiring into the condition of the injured Cecil Hunt, who is no relation to the Hunt family of Myers Lane. Morris Promoted LeRoy Morris, who made his home at 215 Iowa street, has been pro moted from private to corporal according to word from the pub lic relations office of the IX Ar my Corps at Fort Lewis, Wash. Leaves For East Mrs. Wal lace E. Haskins of Jacksonville left last night by train for Peor ia, 111., where she has been call ed by the illness of her mother, Mrs. Fred P. Helfenstein of Pe oria, IU. Mrs. Helfenstein is in the Methodist hospital in Peoria. Mrs. Haskins plans to be gone several months. Her mother visited in southern Oregon last summer. Cited To Anpear Willie Ray mond Hekkala of this city was arrested by state police Friday for failure to stop at a stop sign. He was cited to appear Tuesday in justice court. M. Douglas Cole and Forest Vernon Harri son, both of Medford, were ar rested for operating cars with void licenses. Both are to ap pear in justice court Monday. Mutt Jones, who was arrested on the Midway road near Med ford for driving an automobile without an operator's license, will appear in Justice court Monday. Washington, June 13 OF) The war labor board delivered a ultimatum today to 125 strik ers at the Arkwright corpora tion. Fall River, Mass., textile concern, to return to work Mon day or forfeit their Jobs. In a telegram to each of the strikers Chairman William H. Davis of the WLB said the strikers were guilty of "dis loyalty and dishonor" because of the circumstances of the work stoppage. The strikers are members of an independent union, the Amer ican Federation of Textile Op eratives. Davis said the strike had thrown 800 to 900 other em ployes out of work, bringing war production in the plant to a standstill. CANCEL ROAD JOBS Salem, June 13 P The state highway commission has cancelled five construction con tracts aggregating $369,594.65 in compliance with war pro duction board restrictive orders.
