Bradley, truck drivers charged with operating vehicles with overloads, were each fined $ and costs in Justice court yes terday. Two more truck drivers were scheduled to appear today. Promoted Word has been re ceived here of the promotion from corporal to sergeant of Wayne M. Fairchild, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Fairchild of Med ford. Sgt. Fairchild is stationed at Columbia, S. License Bale The sheriffs of fice announced today truck and trailer licenses for the last half of the year would be on sale next Monday, June 15, and urged drivers of vehicles to get them as soon as possible. The truck and trailer licenses are based on the weight of the vehicles. From West Llna Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Conegys and small son, Gary, arrived last night from West Linn, Ore., to visit Mr. and Mrs. George Corum, 343 So. Central avenue. The Cone gys also brought little Judy Hout, grand-daughter of the Corums. From Olrmpia Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schoeni, of Olympia, Wash., arrived Thursday to visit Mr. Schoeni'f aunt, Mrs. A. E. Lyman, 45 Ross Court. Mr. Schoeni, former Medford news paper man, is now bureau man ager for the United Press in Olympia. H. M. Reed was sentenced to 10 days In the city jail on a similar charge and F. E. Lowe paid a $10 fine on the same charge. Harold Cade was given a $10 fine or five days in the city Jail on the same charge. Traffic Violations Herbert Franklin Morris of this city was arrested by state police yester day on a charge of operating an automobile without tail light. He was cited to appear In Justice court Monday. Edwin Clyde Snyder of Central Point was ar restou by state police for operat ing an automobile without a license. He was cited to appear in Justice court Tuesday. To ap pear in Justice court tomorrow is William Fairfield Nye of Camp White, who was arrested yesterday by state police for operating an automobile with out a driver's license. Returns From Portland Dr. Bert R. Elliott returned today from Portland, where he attend ed a meeting of the Oregon State Dental Board of which he is a member. Twenty-eight grad uates took the final examina tions this month and it la prob able that In addition to regular June and November examina tions another will be given In February to accommodate those who complete their course at that time. Dr. Elliott stated. Graduation during February is the result of speeding up classes whereby needed dental officers can be provided for the army and navy, he explained. Funk, route 1, Central Point and Elmer Kivett of Jacksonville were drivers of sedans involved in a minor accident at Beau Lane and the Jacksonville-Central Point road last evening at 7:30 o'clock, according to a re port on file. Mof fatt of Medford was in receipt to day of a clipping from the Kins ley, (Kan.) Mercury concerning J. M. Satterthwaite, lone surviv ing buffalo hunter in that area. Satterthwaite, who made buffalo hunting trips in 1872 and 1873, was editor for years of the Doug lass. (Kan.) Tribune, were Dr. Moffatt was apprenticed. S. Sumpter Smith, former publisher of the Mail Tribune, also knew Satterthwaite when the former resided at Eldorado, Kan. time, and continuing until May 19 of this year, he had reported as paid to the municipal water on department the bills charged R. against his firm amounting to a total of $1,300. Portland, June 13. -(IP) Ore gon big-game hunters split to day over proposed dovetailing of deer and elk seasons as the State Game commission opened a two-day session. With arguments set for to morrow, spokesmen for hunters in the western portion of the state indicated they are In gen eral agreement with the pro posal. Eastern Oregon delega tions are opposed. The deer season usually starts around September 20 and runs to October 23 with the elk sea son running from around No vember 1 to 15. Under the new proposal the deer season would be extended about one week and the elk season moved up pro portionately. The opposition view is that the number of hunters in the woods at one time would be in creased, that animals would not be in good condition, that a long double season in warmer weather would increase spoil age of meat. Western support contends that the dovetailed season would be better from the standpoint of tire and gasoline conditions, that more deer and elk would be killed in areas where they have increased most, that many persons would be enabled to lay in bigger supplies of meat for cold storage. 70,000 MORE NEEDED IN CITY WAR PLANTS Portland, June 12 (PI Port land's war Industries will re quire an additional 70,000 train ed workers within the next six months, A. Although specifi cally accused of taking for his own use $724.70 between the dates of Jan. 1 and May 19, of this year, Reynolds is alleged in a report of auditors to have a shortage of nearly $11,000 in his records over a period of years since 1927, District Attorney J. V. Long reported. The audit reports, the district attorney stated, that the city treasurer has converted to his own use approximately $9,400 When a tanker loaded with gasoline is sunk by an axis sub marine enough gasoline is lost to have driven 5,000 autos for a whole year at the normal rate.
