Beard, 28, of Fern Val ley, a member of the army air corps, horn on a furlough, charged with fishing without a license, wai fined $25 and costs in Justice court yesterday. It was the first violation of the angling lawi case of the season. Beard explained to the court he went fishing with his father in Butte creek and did some himself though he had no license-. He further told the court he Joined the air corps and was aent home on a furlough until accommodations for training could be made. Time was given Beard to pay the fine, the minimum under Oregon law. Arleta Ellen Howe, 20, of Bt. 1, Central Point, was aseMd $1 and costs for failure to stop before entering a main highway. Levi H. Ijichbrock of the Eagle Point region, charged with being intoxicated on a pub lie highway, was fined f 10 and costs. Alonzo E. Alexander, a taxi driver, charged with violation of the basic rule, was fined $10 and costs and not $1 and costs as erroneously reported in this paper. The fine was imposed the first of the week. Alex ander was charged with exceed ing the speed limit of 25 miles per hour on Central avenue, a one-way street. Air observation post at Shady Cove and Trail were inspected this week by a group of army officers who stressed the im portance of keeping the posts manned. Plans were made for Shady Cove and Trail posts to be manned alternate weeks and the officers urged all in the community to participate in the project. Those in charge In the vicin ity said yesterday that more help is needed for night duty at the posts and those who have not taken part are urged to Join in the activity and relieve many who have cooperated thus far. Shady Cove and Trail residents are asked to contact chief ob servers in the district or call at the posts. Trail posts will work the week beginning Sunday from 6 a. m. until Sunday, May S at 6 a. m. when Shady Cove posts will be manned. This schedule will alternate weekly between the two posts until the army makes other arrangement. SHOPTOOLUST The government Is seeking a complete Inventory of all shop tools and machines owned by schools and other agencies, ac cording to City School Superin tendent E. H. Hedrick who at tended a council for directors of defense schools In Salem yester day. Regular inventory on govern ment owned tools and machines has been taken and those of other agencies are being lined up for defense work or training- Supt.
