With Shower At Pixler Home Ferris Jacobson and- Wayne Mace, whose marriage will be an event of early May, were honored at a surprise shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pixler, 602 King street, Saturday evening. Pinochle was at play with Mrs. Russell Hoff man and George Buchanan win ning prizes. The honored guests received many gifts. At a later hour refreshments were served with the honored couple cutting three-tiered cakes which were decorated in keep ing with the occasion. Attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fry, Mr. and Mrs. Steinbrecker, Bill Nirk, George Buchanan. Mrs. Art Davis, Mrs. Russell Hoffman, Myrtle Hake, Valla Vee Vandagrift, Mr. and Mrs. Vandagrift and Mr. and Mrs. Pixler and the honored guests. Club HoTds Second Hike At the second meeting of the "Foot Travelers" club held Sat urday 20 Girls Scouts hiked six miles averaging a mile each 20 minutes. Members of the club and other Girl Scouts who are planning to attend future hikes are asked to make their knap sacks and secure their individual first aid kits Saturday as no hike is planned for this week. The first Saturday in May a mountain hike is planned and the group will ride to the foot of Johns peak. Each hiker must bring a written permit and leaders and mothers of Girl Scouts are invited to take part in the health-building program. Church Circle Plans Friday Tea Loyalty Circle of the First Methodist church is planning a tea to be held at the home of Mrs. W. B. Hickman, 207 Haven street Friday afternoon from 2 until S o'clock. Members and friends are invited. Lodge Members Enjoy Program At Social Meeting Degree of Honor lodge en joyed a social hour at the Towns end hall Tuesday evening when members were entertained by students from Ruth Luy's danc ing Biuuiu, awu Mttis were pre sented by young members of the lodge also and Ernest Lucas and Adabee Seiler gave several read ings. Barbara McGrew sang sev eral vocal numbers. The pro gram was announced by Ina Pearl Lucas and refreshments were served by Kay Brazille and her committee. White at 20 Ross Court Monday afternoon. A peanut hunt and games were enjoyed and the honored guest received gifts. Later refreshments were served with a birthday cake and lighted candles. The guests received balloons and candy filled favors. Attending were Gordon Smith, Mark Goldy, Jerry Stinson, Lynn Cole and the honored guest. May Day Theme For Lively Rogue Dance At Hall May Day formed the theme for the May dance of the Lively Rogue Dancing club last eve ning at the K. of P. hall. W. and auxiliary of Ashland were held at the armory Tuesday evening with I. D. Canfield, past depart ment commander of Medford and Ida Crandall, auxiliary dis trict president of Ashland as installing officers. A large delegation attended from Del Rogue Post No. 2302 V. F. W. of Grants Pass headed by their newly installed com mander, Hugh Gould and newly installed Auxiliary president, Lottie 'Gerard, together with guests from patriotic and vet eran groups in the city. Com rade Gerhert of V. F. W. Post No. 20S2 of Wake Island gave an interesting talk on his expe riences while on the island. A past commander's badge was presented to Past Com mander Merrill A. Beneka of Crater Lake Post and Past Com mander Charles Pratt of Walter A. Nursing consultants, whose salaries range from $2,600 to $5,600 a year, will be appointed in the U. S. Public Health Serv ice, Federal Security Agency and also in the childrens' bu reau, department of labor. There will be no written test, qualifications being judged sole ly from the experience, educa tion and training of the appli cants. Examinations for helper, woodworker and rivet heater are for the purpose of filling existing and future vacancies at the Puget Sound navy yard, and for stenographers, typists and zone deputy collectors to fill vacancies in northwest states. Full information concerning these examinations, and appli cation forms, may be obtained from Earl H. York, secretary of the board of U. S. civil service examiners, Medford postoffice. Alexander, ma rhinerv dealer there, for $1,430. Boyd Kaiser was opposing bid der. The present housing short age in Central roini was given as reason for the amount. The Peart house, built in the 80's, was valued by the county at $795. Five lots went with It. The house was acquired by the county on the 1938 delin quency tax list.
