Harvey Weaver was assessed $5 for failure to stop at a stop street and Lewis Sharp was fined $10 for viola tion of the basic rule. Darrel C. Brown was fined $2.50 for double parking. Lloyd Thomp son was fined $5 In city court this morning for operating an auto without a license. Elmer L. Cordill was fined $2.50 for double parking. Meeting Tonight The meet ing of Medford's civilian war council Instructors will be held in the council chambers of city hall at 7:30 tonight. It was er roneously stated yesterday that the meeting was to have been held last night. Daughter Born Word has been received here of the birth Saturday noon of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Claud C. Thomp son at Arcadia, Cal. The Thomp sons are former Medford resi dents. Mrs. Thompson is the daughter of Mrs. J. H. Butler, 16 East Main street. Installed Ralph Sweeney of 1125 West Main street was In stalled as grand captain general for Knights Templar of Oregon at the installation services held yesterday afternoon at the 56th annual grand conclave in Port land. Mr. Sweeney plans to re turn to this city tomorrow. Footprlnters Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Medford chapter of Interna tional Footprinters association will be held in the city hall at 8 o'clock Wednesday night. Important business will be taken up and Vern Draper, president requests' all members to attend. Fines Levied Raymond M. Elspas, 42, Carroll Briggs, 45. and Jesse Franklin Grahnm were each sentenced to five days in Jail in city court this morning on charges of drunken' ness. Lloyd Pinkney, 37, was fined $10 for the same offense and Forest Ivan Marr forfeited $10 bail on the same charge. Returns Emmett Phillip re turned to Seattle Sunday after spending short visit her with his nephew, Keith Johnson, who was her on leave from his for mer post with the United States marines In Iceland. Mr. Phillips was accompanied" her by Jerry Momingstar of this city, both of whom are employed In Seat tle shipyards. e e Leav for Portland Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Severson and W. J. Baker left today for Portland where they will attend a CIO district conference. Mr Sever son is a CIO organizer for south ern Oregon and Mr. Baker Is district CIO president with head quarters in Vancouver, Wah. The Seversons recently took up residence at 330 Holly street. ANTI-JAP THREAT E ORIENTAL GARDENS "SWING IN-TO SPRING On of the first Instances of attempted anti-Japanese action in Medford was revealed when Joseph Willard Kieffer, 32, no address listed, was fined $10 in city court this morning on a dis orderly conduct charge. Kieffer and Clyde Edward Caster, Oak Grove road, were picked up by city police last night after a report was receiv ed that men were on the way to damage the J. N. Cafe, at 27 So. Front St., owned by a Jap anese, Ichitara Nakagiri. The two were trailed to the rear of the cafe after they had picked up rocks on railroad property, a police report said. Kieffer is said to have ad mitted his Intention to throw a rock through a cafe window. Gaster forfeited $10 bail last night, police stated. Retaking, Central Point, charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, was fined $1 and costs. The offense occurred at the intersection of Beall Lane with the Pacific highway.
