FREEZERSTORAGE TO BE PRACTICAL Corvallis (Spl.) Just as the Pacific northwest Is credited with having started the nation wide movement toward the use of rented storage locker in which to keep food by freezing, so the Pacific northwest now is showing increased interest in farm refrigeration where equip ment is installed on the farm. As an aid In this movement a station bulletin has Just been issued at Oregon State college entitled "The Farm Freezing Plant" which contains detailed plan and specifications for building individual freezer units on the farm. The authors are W. H. Martin, professer of heat en gineering, and F. E. Price, ag ricultural engineer. Various combinations of lock er service ere discussed to the bulletin, including use of rent al locker in connection with household refrigeration, or the use of two types of home freezer space without rental lockers. The roost complete of these is two-compartment farm freezer plant which ha (pace for keep ing foods at zero and at 33 de grees F. This plan involve the investment of about $800 if the carpenter work is done by the owner. The operation will re quire about 100 kilowatt hour of electricity per month, whicn would probably cost around f 2. This plan Is particularly adapted to needs of the larger family that can use large quan tities of frozen farm-produced fruits, meats, and vegetables, or the farm family located some what distant from rental locker service, according to the auth ors. Some Individual farm freezer plants of this type are already In use on farms in Oregon and Washington and are giving good service when properly construct ed, the authors say, m... nlna la hln USad lfl mm, EnmnMn countries to eon- serve strategic material. -J-RED CROSS UNIFORMS -J- For Canteen Production, or, Surgical Dressing Work All Sizes 12 to 44 $3.00 Caps 25c Mail Order prepaid anywhere In Southern Oregon e Northern California.
