During the installation Mrs Howard Bush sang two selec tions accompanied by Kenneth Hartman. Mrs. E. G. Randolph presented two vocal selections with Mrs Strang as accompanist and by request William Biooks - accompanied by his daughter Miss Beverly Brooks sang The End of a Perfect Day." Mrs. C. E. Kunz, associate matron, presented the new ma tron with a bowl of roses and a ritual as gifts from her officers. Miss Joyce Freed, presented her mother with a bouquet of roses and a gift. On behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Leland VanderMark. Leon Bishop presented the chap ter with a white gavel and white ballot box to match the chap ter's equipment. ' Aubrey Norrls. retiring worthy patron presented Mrs. Norrls with her past matron's lewel and In return Mrs. Norrls pre sented Mr. Norrls with his past worthy patron's pin on behalf of Mrs. Erie Gray and herself. Mr. Norrls served as worthy patron during the term of Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Norrls. New York City, to Dr. Peter Hobart Knapp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin H. Knapp of Cazenovla, New York. The Owens formerly resided In this city, making their home on Siskiyou heights. Miss Owen attended Valley school while residing here. Miss Owen attended Ogontz and is at present attending pre- meaicai school in New York and plans to enter medical school in Boston. Dr. Knapp Is a graduate of St. George Prep School and Harvard university, Harvard Medical school. He Is a mem ber of the Owl Club, Hasty. Pudding Inst., Alpha Omega Alpha. Dinner Honors Cummins At Carpenter Home Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Cummins were honored last evening with a dinner party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. V. Car renter, Topsidcs, on the Old Stage road. Knapp Local Couple Weds January 4 In Corpus Christi Miss EileeiSTBerntson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Berntson of Jacksonville, and Donald R, Horner, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Horner of this city, were married January 4 In the First Presbyterian church af Corpus Christi, Tex. The Rev. Mr. Diehl officiated at the ceremony. The young couple will make their home In Corpus Christi where Mr. Horner has Just re ceived his appointment as cadet pilot In the naval air corps. uotn are well known In the valley, Mrs. Horner having graduated from Jacksonville high school and has been em ployed at the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company and Bear Creek orchard. Mr. Horner graduated from Medford high school and attended University of Oregon, Oregon State college and Southern Oregon College of Education where he received his primary air training. Halfhill of Medford The ceremony was read at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Meta F. Becker of Spen cer, January 4 with the Rev. W. K. Williams of Spencer pre siding. The bride wore a costume suit of aquamarine blue and a cor sage of pink rosebuds, The couple was attended by the bride's brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Oehl, of Spencer. Immediately following the wedding breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Halfhill departed for the west coast and arrived at their new home on the Pacific highway Just south of Medford Friday evening. Mrs. Halfhill was a member of the faculty at the Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland for two years. She is a graduate of Spirit Lake high school in Iowa and attended Iowa State university in Iowa City where she- completed her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees. She is a member of PI Lambda Theta honorary. Last June she returned to Spencer from Ashland to accept a local supervising Instructor's position in the schools. Mr. Halfhill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Halfhill of route 4 Medford and is superin tendent of the Orchard Park Farm owned by Walter H. Lev erette, a position he. has held for the past six years. Mr. and Mrs. Halfhill will be at home to their friends after January 15. New Members Named On Board Appointment of two new members to the board of the Jackson County League of Women Voters has been an nounced by Mrs. Leonard Car penter, president. Mrs. Ralph McCullouch,' Ashland, has ac cepted the chairmanship of the j department of social welfare. I Mrs. McCullouch replaces Miss Anne Dean Who has left the city. Mrs. Paul Janney, a former board member, will be assistant chairman of the department of foreign policy, working with Mrs. Justin Smith. Mrs. F. G. Hughes is assistant chairman of the social welfare department. Lady Lions To Meet At Boitanio Home Mrs. A. Boitanio will enter tain members of the Lady Lion's auxiliary at her home Wednes day with a covered dish lunch eon at 1 p. m. Assisting the hostess will be Mrs. George Goodman and Mrs Bill Green. Mrs. Boitanio resides at 1710 East Main street. In Nissen's Popular Dinner Reveals Coming Marriage Of lone Kindred Mis Ion Kindred, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Kindred, announced her engagement to Peter Larson, son cf Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Larson of Woodburn, Ore., Monday evening at a din ner at the Hotel Jackson. March 21 was announced a the wed ding date. News of the betrothal was told by tiny icroll fastened to indi vidual corsages for the guests. The corsages surrounded a tiny bride and groom in the center of the table. On either side were yellow candles. The corsages were yellow chrysanthemums and yellow ribbons from the center piece were arranged to Individual place for the guests. Mis Helen Bullis review ed the book. "Here's To Can ada," by Dorothy Duncan in which many Interesting point were revealed. The country ha an area of 3,669,000 square miles stretch ing from the Great Lakes to the North pole and covers a surface larger than all the 48 states of the union. The popu lation, 10,376,786, is less than the number of people in New York state alone and the ma jority of the populace reside In southern points of Ontario and Quebec. In the 1,317,000 square miles of Yukon and northwest territories are 13,953 inhabi tants, most of them Indians and Eskimos. The book (tressed that Can ada is yet a young country and has much to discover and de velop in her fish, fur, nickel, asbestos, gold, sliver and ex tensive reserves of coal. Next to grain, Canada's most import ant harvest is timber from which the northlandj yield $175,000,000 annually. Quebec produces more maple products than any other province in Can ada and Ontario takes first place in farming, trapping, mining, electric power, banking and manufacturing. Although many of the Can adian provinces share a com mon border with the United State relation are closest with Ontario, the author pointed out.
